🐄 STEM & ART: A Collaboration Through the Picasso Cows Program🐄

This term, students from Prep to Year 6 have taken part in an exciting whole school initiative: The Picasso Cow Program, a national project blending STEM, technology, sustainability, healthy eating, and Visual Arts in joyful, hands-on ways.

STEM Highlights

Throughout the term, students have explored the journey of milk from farm to plate, learning how dairy products like milk, yoghurt, cheese, and ice cream are made. Every year level even had the chance to make their own delicious banana smoothies!

Students also connected their science learning with creativity by exploring who Pablo Picasso was, then designing their own unique Picasso Cows during STEM lessons blending art and agriculture in fun, meaningful ways.

We also celebrated two important events in STEM:

🌏 Earth Day (22 April): Year 1–6 students listed 10 ways to help the Earth, linking sustainability to farming practices.

🐝 World Bee Day (20 May): Students learned about pollination and the role of bees in food production. Some even added honey to their smoothies to celebrate!

Visual Arts Highlights

In Art, students expressed their STEM learning through painting, collage, mosaic, and design. The Picasso Cow Program is giving every student the chance to shine artistically. The Preps and Year 1/2s transformed the cow’s delivery box into a bright, eye-catching feature for our school.  The 3/4s designed individual Picasso cows and crafted mosaic backgrounds for their hand-drawn artwork. While the Year 5/6s explored Chigiri-e, the traditional Japanese art of torn paper collage, creating beautiful dairy farm landscapes. They are now working on our school’s official Picasso Cow design, and the early designs look fabulous!

In every Art class, students brainstormed names for our Picasso Cow and after many clever entries the finalists were:

  • Milky – Marco (1/2PL) & Elliana (1/2LE)
  • Dairy Lairy – Meliki (1/2TH)
  • Moosie – Shraysth (5/6CO/HE)
  • Bocconcini – Evelyn & Olivia (5/6FI)
  • Bonnie – Hannah (5/6FI)
  • Daisy – Mannat (5/6SODA)

🥁 The winning name is…

The Picasso Cow Program has been a true highlight of the term so far, uniting STEM and ART with a fantastic collaboration. Students now better understand where their dairy food comes from, the importance of protecting the Earth, and how their creativity can help them learn about sustainability, healthy living, and the world around them. We are so proud of their efforts and can’t wait to showcase our Picasso Cow to the whole school community.
