Understanding Well-being: Helping Our Primary Children Thrive
At St Anthony's, we truly believe in helping every child grow and thrive, not just in their lessons but in every part of their lives. Just like we talk about keeping our bodies healthy with good food and exercise, it's also wonderful to think about our well-being; how we feel on the inside, how we think, and how we handle all the little ups and downs that come our way.
For our primary school children, this idea of well-being is so important. It's about making sure they feel safe and happy at school and at home. It helps them feel ready to learn, make friends, and play together. It also helps them start to understand their own feelings – whether they're feeling happy, a bit sad, a little worried, or even a bit cross sometimes. Importantly, as they grow, we want to help them build the inner strength that lets them bounce back when things are a little tricky.
What Does Well-being Look Like in a Primary Child?
You might see signs of good well-being when your child:
- Enjoys school and activities.
- Shows curiosity and asks questions.
- Can manage small disappointments without too much upset.
- Talks about their day or their feelings (even a little bit).
- Plays imaginatively and freely.
- Sleeps well and has energy.
Sometimes, children might have small worries or feel upset, and that's okay. Everyone has different feelings. Our goal is to help them learn healthy ways to understand and handle these feelings as they grow.
We believe that by paying attention to our children's well-being, we are helping them build a strong foundation for a happy and successful future.
If you ever find yourself with worries or questions about your child's well-being, please know we are here to support you. We are a team, working together for your child's best interests.
