From the Leadership Team

Dear families,

We hope you had a wonderful break with your child/ren and were able to enjoy the outdoors and the gorgeous weather we had. I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time on the Limestone Coast and enjoy some of the amazing places SA has to offer.

It's going to be another busy term and we are looking forward to all of the exciting events we have planned.

Term Overviews

Curriculum Term Overviews for your child's class will be available on Class Dojo this week so you are able to read over the learning that is occuring at Modbury School this term. If you have any questions regarding your child's learning, please don't hestitate to make contact with your child's teacher to discuss.

Mother's Day Stall

Our Mother's Day Stall is next week. Our students will be visiting the Mother's Day stall on Tuesday. Please send money with your child on the day, along with a bag for them to put their purchase in. Please speak to us if you are interested in volunteering on the day

Wear your Footy Colours and Showdown Donut Day

On Friday 9th May, we are having a friendly 'Wear your Colours' day in support of the Crows vs Port Showdown. Students are invited to wear sports clothing, including footy colours on the day. Showdown donuts are also available on Qkr! to order. These will be delivered on Friday to school for your child. If you child is at SAPSASA Cross Country and orders a donut, they can collect at the end of the day, when they return back to school.

Uniform Update

As it is getting chilly in the mornings, we would like to remind you that we now have Modbury School beanies available for order via Qkr!. These beanies may be worn in the place of school hats during Terms 2 and 3.

DreamBIG Children's Festival

Our students are lucky enough to be able to go on an excursion to the Festival Theatre in the city for the DreamBIG Children's Festival.

Did you know?

The DreamBIG Children's Festival is an iconic arts festival for children and young people held every 2 years in South Australia. The festival was originally known as Come Out Children's Festival, and started in 1974. Since then it's become an important part of South Australia's preschool and school calendar.

The festival includes:

  • a poster competition, where the winning entry is used in festival materials
  • an opening event involving around 2,000 children
  • theatre, dance, music and circus performances
  • interactive installations
  • workshops
  • statewide projects
  • media and digital art installations
  • exhibitions
  • masterclasses for secondary school students
  • teacher professional learning opportunities.

The festival has:

  • a schools program, where students take part in events and performances through their school. The schools program is complimented with teacher resources and professional learning.
  • a general public program for families, this includes the Big Family Weekend.

Road Safety Centre

Rooms 7, 8 and 9 will attend the Tea Tree Gully Road and Cycle Safety Centre this term.

The Road and Cycle Safety Centre makes learning how to ride a bicycle fun for children of all ages. The enclosed open space has a mini-road network, which gives children a real-life experience as they learn how to ride a bicycle in a safe and controlled environment.

The Centre hosts structured school group sessions that teach road safety skills to children, including:

  • workable traffic signals
  • pedestrian crossings
  • recognising traffic signs and line marking
  • roundabouts and gutters.

We require volunteers for this excursion, please let us know if you can support us in walking us to and from the centre (like swimming).

RAA Street Smart

This term our students will participate in RAA Street Smart sessions delivered by the RAA. An RAA-trained, qualified teacher will visit our school to deliver an interactive, age-appropriate presentation with a focus on pedestrian, passenger and wheeled safety. All lessons align with the Australian Curriculum.

SAPSASA Cross Country

Good luck to our SAPSASA Cross Country team who will be participating in the Cross Country event next Friday. Mr Venter has been supporting the team at lunchtimes with a Run Club.

National Walk Safely to School Day - May 16th

National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual community event where all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.

Now in its 26th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is supported by the Federal Government, and all State, Territory, and Local Governments. The event promotes Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.

To celebrate this event we invite you to join us in Walking Safely to School. Staff members will be meeting at Civic Park at 8:20 am on Friday May 16th. We will then walk together as a group to school in time for the first bell. Please note that parents/caregivers must accompany their child. As this is not a formal excursion, there is no duty of care/supervision provided by staff.

Emergency Procedures

At Modbury School P-6, the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities. Regular emergency practice drills are a crucial component of our Work Health and Safety (WHS) strategy. These drills prepare everyone to respond swiftly and effectively in the event of an emergency, such as a fire or natural disaster. By practising these procedures, we ensure that our school community is well-equipped to handle unexpected situations, minimising risks and enhancing overall safety. This term we will continue to practice our evacuation and invacuation drills. This term we will practice our off-site evacuation drill.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. Volunteers contribute to the education sector in many ways, from reading in class to helping on excursions. Our volunteers contribute thousands of hours to our schools, preschools and children’s centres.

In 2025, National Volunteer Week will be held from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 May. This special event provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our schools, preschools and children’s centres, and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go.

If you have always loved the idea of volunteering in our school - now is the perfect time to register with us! We are hosting volunteer training and induction sessions each term, and would love to have you join us in supporting our children.  Our next session will be held on May 15th- Week 3 Thursday.

Casual Day Fundraising

Thank you for your participation in our casual day on the last day of Term 1. Our families raised $184.00 which will go towards our Garden.

Book Week 2025

The 2025 Children's Book Week theme is Book an Adventure! This theme invites us to explore the limitless possibilities that reading offers. Books have the power to transport us to distant lands, introduce us to fascinating characters, and spark our imaginations. Through reading, children can embark on adventures that enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and empathy.

In Term 3, we will celebrate Book Week and encourage our students to dive into stories that inspire curiosity and wonder. Reading is not just a pastime; it's a gateway to understanding the world and ourselves.
