Student Voice Matters
In the coming weeks, we will be asking students to complete the annual Attitudes To School Survey. This is an anonymous survey that gives every student the opportunity to provide feedback about their experiences at school. As a school, we value the feedback and spend considerable time analysing the responses, which contribute to decisions we make about what happens in and out of the classroom.
Accurate and honest student feedback can directly impact student learning experiences and help create a better school environment.Student feedback:
1. Improves teaching and learning: Thoughtful responses help teachers understand what’s working and where we can improve to support student success. Our recent launch of core learning skills is designed to improve the learning experience for all students. These explicit skills that every student is capable of achieving are key to students thriving in their learning.
2. Shapes school policies and programs: In recent years, we adjusted our school uniform policy which gives students greater choice in wearing either sport or formal uniform on any given day.
3. Gives students a voice: Based on the survey responses, we have developed our lunchtime club program and looking forward to launching it bigger and better this term.
4. Builds a culture of trust and respect: When students take surveys seriously, they show that they care about their community—and schools are more likely to respond in kind. Throughout Term 1, we conducted student focus groups at every year level giving students an opportunity to tell us what they are thinking and feeling about their experiences in and out of the classroom. Furthermore, our student leaders have been running student feedback sessions at lunchtime encouraging students to come forward and have their voices heard.
5. Leads to real change: Making good decisions about how to improve the school for every student is dependent on accurate and honest feedback from students. Their voices and experiences are central to every decision we make.
We look forward to conducing the student survey with all year levels in the coming weeks and we encourage students to take their time with the survey, ensure they understand every question and provide accurate and honest feedback.
Cross Country
Last Wednesday, many of our students took to the track to participate in our annual Cross Country. Although the weather wasn’t great, it didn’t deter students on the day giving it their all on the track. We were very proud of the many runners that we had this year and the great sportsmanship shown on the side lines as they cheered their mates to the finish line.
