Mums, You Matter Too šŸ’›

Being a mum is one of the most rewarding roles, but it’s also one of the busiest. It’s easy to spend your days caring for everyone else and forget to include yourself in the picture. Self-care isn’t selfish, even though it can sometimes feel that way. Finding the time and letting go of the guilt can be the hardest part.

ā€œYou can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.ā€Ā ā€”Ā Audrey Lorde

Think of the safety message on an aeroplane:Ā put your own oxygen mask on first. It’s the same when you are a mum. When we take care of our own wellbeing, we’re better able to support and care for our families.

Our children are always watching, too. They learn how to treat themselves by seeing how we, as adults, treat ourselves. When we make time for our own wellbeing, we’re showing them that it’s important to be kind and compassionate to themselves.

The good news is that self-care doesn’t have to be big or fancy. Often, it’s the small, simple moments that make the biggest difference.

Here are a few gentle ways to build self-care into your week:

✨ Make time for something you enjoy each day- Even a few minutes can help: reading, a quiet cup of tea, a favourite show, or simply sitting in peace.

šŸ’¬Ā Connect with others A chat with a friend, a coffee with another mum, or time with your support network can do wonders.

🌿 Pause and be present Taking a few mindful moments each day can help you reset, even in the middle of a busy routine.

šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøĀ Move your body It doesn’t have to be the gym, a walk, stretching, or playing outside with the kids. It all counts.

šŸŽØĀ Keep your own interests alive You are more than ā€œMum.ā€ Make space for the things that bring you joy and help you feel like yourself.

šŸ’›Ā Be kind to yourself There’s no such thing as a perfect mum. Being ā€œgood enoughā€ is more than enough and exactly what your children need.

Take a moment to reflect on your past week. Did you make space for yourself? If not, that’s okay, there’s always a new week ahead. Sometimes we need to plan these moments to make them happen.

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.ā€ — Anne LamottĀ

Because when you look after yourself, everyone benefits. šŸ’›

To all our mums, stepmums, grandmothers, and carers in our school community: thank you. We see you. We appreciate you. And we celebrate you today and every day.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us. šŸ’
