The Art room is currently buzzing with activity as we try to get lots of amazing art completed for the Art show in term 4. The students are making so many amazing things!
Grade Prep
The Grade Preps have had a busy start to the term. Last week we made beautiful hand print potted plants using paint and posca pens. This week we have started to use up the huge stash of milk tops and bottles that people have donated over the years. The preps had so much fun threading the bottle tops onto string in various patterns. Such a great activity for hand eye coordination.

Grade 1
The Grade 1’s have been inspired by the outback and are creating some country hats with corks to shoo the pesky flies away. This process will take place over a few weeks and consists of several parts. This week some of the students started working on the faces. Next week we will move onto adding the corks onto string and putting all the parts together.

Grade 2
The grade 2’s are adding to the Grade 1 display, and they are creating the pesky flies out of papier mache. This week we worked on the 3D body base of the fly and over the coming weeks we will build up some paper layers. The final stage will be to paint and add the details. I can’t wait to see these come together.

Grade 3/4
This week we finished off our lantern designs using tracing paper and coloured sharpies. These will be attached to the base and top of the lanterns closer to the Lantern Walk. We are running out of space to store everything!

Grade 5/6
The Grade 5/6’s continue to study their designated Australian Artist and create an art piece inspired by their artist’s style. (Pete Cromer, Ken Done, Sidney Nolan, Albert Namatjira and Mirka Mora) Some students have completed this piece and have moved onto our next major project which is to create and design their own 3D mini food truck. This activity is a popular one! To help us with this activity, we ask that students bring in empty cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard so we can reinforce our mini food trucks.

Art club
This week in Art Club, the fabulous grade 3/4 volunteers continue to paint some super large letters spelling out our Art Show theme, ‘Australian Made’. These will be on display at the Art Show. This week we did the base coat and next week we will be adding some painted details.
Art club is available to different year levels each term. The schedule for 2026 will be as follows:
Term 2 | Term 3 | Term 4 |
Grade 3/4’s – Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade 1/2 - Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade Preps - Preparation for this year’s Art Show |

Art smocks
Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.
We are looking for…..
To help with the creative process, we are asking for some materials that you may no longer need and would be happy to donate to the art room where we will turn them into magnificent art pieces. Some things we are looking for are wool, old house paint brushes, newspapers, empty Cereal boxes or boxes that have a similar thin cardboard, and empty 1.5litre fizzy drink bottles (washed). The cereal boxes are the most urgent things we need at the moment. So, if you are doing a clean out and have these items can you please drop them off at the Art Room. Thanks so much for your support!

Warm regards,
Marcia Evans
Students have continued to build on their learning throughout Term 2, with a strong focus on applying skills in more complex situations and developing greater confidence, teamwork and decision-making across all year levels.
What Students Are Learning
Prep
Students are continuing to develop their fundamental movement skills through activities that focus on balance, coordination and movement in shared spaces. They are becoming increasingly confident moving safely and responding to different instructions and challenges.
Year 1
Students are developing their throwing, catching and movement skills through a range of small-group activities and games. The focus has been on coordination, control and working safely with others.
Year 2
Students are building on their object control skills by combining throwing, catching and movement in more dynamic activities. There has been a strong focus on teamwork, positioning and applying skills in simple game situations.
Years 3/4
Students are continuing to develop their understanding of rules, tactics and teamwork within striking and fielding games. They are beginning to apply strategies to create space, defend effectively and make smarter decisions during games.
Years 5/6
Students are refining their tactical awareness and game sense within striking and fielding games. The focus has been on leadership, communication and applying advanced strategies in competitive game play.
Sport Update
Congratulations to our District Cross Country team, who were crowned District Champions last week in an outstanding team performance.
All students represented Williamstown Primary School with tremendous effort, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see students challenge themselves, support one another and compete so strongly across all age groups.
A special thank you to our French teacher, Madame Sara, who dedicated significant time to supporting and training the team in the lead-up to the event. The preparation and commitment shown by students throughout the training program was clearly reflected in the team’s success on the day.
We are incredibly proud of the entire team and look forward to supporting the students who will now progress through to the Division Cross Country Championships.
Warm regards,
Paddy Gallivan
Prep – Year 2
Students have continued their learning in the "fruits" language unit, building confidence in recognising and repeating the French names of common fruits. They have been exploring simple language to express their likes and dislikes while participating in a variety of games and interactive activities to reinforce vocabulary. Students are now preparing to create a menu for their own French pop-up juice shop, where they will apply their learning in a fun and practical way.
Years 3 – 6
Students have begun preparing for their French assessment, focusing on applying their knowledge of sentence structure and descriptive language. They have been learning about possessive adjectives and adjectives to describe food items, while planning and writing about items they might find in their lunchboxes. Over the coming weeks, students will continue refining their work before presenting their assessments.
Warm regards,
Sara Borrens
