Debating
Round 1 of the 2026 Debating SA season commenced on Monday, May 11 and we had a fantastic night!
Topics for the first round of the season were:
Year 7: That the South Australia Police should reinstate mandatory spelling and numeracy tests for recruits.
Year 8: That there should be a law to protect the Australian flag from desecration.
Year 9: That South Australia's 'no jab, no play' policy should be abolished.
Year 10: That Banksy is the Da Vinci of his time.
Seniors: That censorship has a place in protecting democracy.
With eight teams participating this year across all year levels, this is our largest involvement in debating to date, with new and returning coaches providing strong guidance for all teams.
In a full circle moment and after years of involvement in debating, Year 12 student Alex Fechner is now a debating coach and has had an excellent start in leading a team of keen Year 7s to their first victory. A massive well done to Alex and the team!
Endeavour's first Debating Leader, Asher Harten, has also been supporting teams across the first round by joining meetings and assisting new and returning debaters in preparing their speeches, all while balancing his own debating speech and Year 12 studies. Asher is to be commended for his efforts in his leadership position and being a role model to debating students.
From our seasoned veterans in Year 11 and 12 to first time debaters in Year 7, Endeavour students showed that we know how to debate the hard topics and our first-time debaters across all year levels impressed all in their maiden speeches.
7 Geese - WON
7 Orange - WON (Lucy Lee BEST SPEAKER)
8 Brown Snakes - LOST
9 Green - WON (Hayley Schultz BEST SPEAKER)
9 Purple - WON (Evie Madigan BEST SPEAKER)
10 Gold - WON (Krisha Babbar BEST SPEAKER
Senior Red - WON
Senior Yellow - WON (Elna Mary Sunu BEST SPEAKER)
Seven out of eight wins and five out of eight best speakers is no small accomplishment. Coaches are so proud of how all teams conducted themselves in both preparation and delivery and we're confident the lessons learnt will be taken into the next round.
Spurred on by the success of Round 1, debaters are now eagerly preparing for the following topics in Round 2:
Year 7: That the re-instatement of corporal punishment by the school is a good idea.
Year 8: That the Iditarod Trail Sled dog race should be permanently cancelled.
Year 9: That the Prime Minister should make a 'State of the Union' speech.
Year 10: That Australia should introduce compulsory military service for school leavers.
Seniors: That Australia should establish a specialised war crimes tribunal to handle cases like Ben Roberts-Smith.
Round 2 kicks off on June 1 at Endeavour College from 6:30pm.

We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and congratulate her on representing Australia so successfully at the Asia Pacific Sprint Cup.
We look forward to following Jasmine's future success in the sport, as she looks ahead to moving into senior racing next year.
Michaela Coetzee and Zoe Edgecomb
We would like to congratulate Michaela Coetzee and Zoe Edgecomb (Year 7 students) for showing great initiative and entrepreneurial spirit by participating in the Young Creators Market in Two Wells recently.
Despite the windy conditions, the girls embraced the opportunity with creativity and courage, proudly selling their handmade products and representing our school community so well.
The market celebrated young artists, handmade crafts and local talent, giving students the chance to share their unique creations with the wider community.
We're proud of Michaela and Zoe's efforts and the confidence they showed throughout the experience and wish them all the best as they prepare for the next market.
