Love Bites Program
After the successful implementation of Love Bites Junior to our Year 7 students last week, a somewhat different version of the Love Bites program will be delivered to our Year 9 students on Wednesday 13 May. Love Bites is a Respectful Relationships Program that helps students form healthier, safer relationships. It is delivered by regional members of the Respectful Relationships Team of the Department of Education.
This is certainly an area that home and school can work together on. The program covers different aspects of how to build healthier, safe relationships and encourages our young people to think and reflect on how their behaviours in a relationship can affect others around them. The delivery of the program is a start; but it will not hit the mark on its own. What is of crucial importance are the conversations that you as parents/carers have with your children at home. Using the Love Bites program as a conversation starter, will support you to delve deep into a very important conversation on rights and responsibilities, how to recognise unsafe behaviours, where to seek help, and the importance of looking out for one another.

Welcome to the Following New Staff
Over the last couple of weeks we have been fortunate to employ a small number of new staff replacing people who have either moved on, or those on leave. First of all, a big welcome to our Indonesian Language Assistant, Ellia Rismawati, who joined us at the start of this term. We have been awaiting her arrival and her presence within our community will certainly support the Indonesian language learning of our students, as well as students at Eltham Primary School whom we share Ellia with.
Furthermore, I welcome the following recent appointees into our learning community:
- Sioua Fonua – Mathematics
- Xsara Little – English
- Alexis Dickinson – Additional Needs
- Glenn Payne – School Grounds Maintenance
We trust that they will have a very positive experience working within our learning environment.
Attitudes to School Survey
The Attitudes to School Survey for 2026 will run on Monday 18 May. As network demands will not allow us to run the survey for all students at the one time, different periods of the timetable have been allocated for different year levels.
Period 1: Year 9
Period 3: Years 7, 10, 11, 12
Period 4: Year 8
As this is an online survey, students will be sent their log in details on Monday morning.
This is an important survey as it provides a great opportunity for student voice and allows us to continue to improve as a school and learning community.
2026 Anthology Launch
The 2026 Anthology Launch will take place on Tuesday 26 May at 10:00 am in the Nalleijerring Performance Centre at Eltham High School.
Our guest presenter will be Kate Mildenhall (Eltham High School Alumnus) writer of “Skylarking” and now her new book “The Hiding Place”. Welcome back to Kate and a big thank you for her generosity of her time and expertise.
Awards will be announced for exemplary Anthology pieces, the Eltham High School Choir will be singing, and a scrumptious morning tea will follow for the Anthology team, the award recipients and their parents prepared by our VET Hospitality students.
The Eltham High School Anthology is a collection of writings and art works that celebrate the talent of our young people. It is student led and edited. Congratulations to all who have been involved in bringing the 2026 Anthology into fruition and a big acknowledgement of the support provide to students by Melanie Gaylard. A great team effort.
Year 11 and Year 10 Exams
The examination period is quickly approaching with Year 11 Exams scheduled for 1 - 5 June and Year 10 exams scheduled for 9 -15 June.
Whilst this may appear a little time away, knowing these dates will give parents/carers the opportunity to check in with your children and support them with their preparation for these assessments.
Exams are not to be taken lightly and to their credit our students do approach them with the level of seriousness that they deserve.
Parents/carers, now is the time to ask your students the question “What can I do to support you to prepare for your exams?” This in itself will provide students with a sense that you are interested in their education and progress and that you want to support them to do their very best.
I take this opportunity to thank you for your support with ensuring that our students perform at capacity.
