In Term 2, we continued expanding Indonesian vocabulary through the alphabet. We began with the letter D, learning delman (horse-drawn carriage) and durian (stinky fruit). Some students were especially curious to try durian and discover just how strong its smell is.

The following week, students explored words starting with E, including empat (4), enam (6), emping (Indonesian nut chips), and es krim (ice cream). Most students have shown noticeable improvement in their colouring skills. They also began learning primary colours in Indonesian—merah (red), biru (blue), and kuning (yellow). The class particularly enjoyed the listening and movement-based colour game.

Grade 1 and 2 students began Term 2 by learning about fruits in Indonesian. They explored commonly found fruits in Indonesia as well as some popular ones in Australia. To help reinforce their learning, students sang a fruit song set to the familiar tune of the colour song.

To apply their knowledge, they drew their favourite fruit and labelled it in Indonesian on Seesaw. Everyone did an excellent job confidently saying their favourite fruit in Indonesian, as well as learning and remembering the fruit vocabulary.

In preparation for the upcoming Indonesian speaking competition, students in Grades 3 and 4 have been actively developing their speaking and listening skills. They have practised how to ask and respond using Indonesian sentences, while also learning to recite or sing an Indonesian poem. Mana Di Mana Anak Kambing Saya (“Where Is My Baby Goat”) is a well-loved Indonesian children’s song that brings a fun and engaging element to their learning. The students put in a wonderful effort in their recitations and performances. Hebat sekali, anak-anak! Stay tuned for more latest information about the speaking competition!

At the beginning of Term 2, students in Grades 5 and 6 began exploring the types of questions and tasks that will lead up to the 2026 Indonesian Speaking Competition. GRPS language learners approached all activities with enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward learning. They showed great enthusiasm in practising their Indonesian speaking skills and a strong interest in learning a new language. In addition, they began creating a piece of writing in Indonesian on the topic “My Favourite Fruit.” Well done, learners! Anda mantap (You’re extraordinary!)
