At Carnegie Primary School, learning isn’t just about being introduced to new ideas — it’s about remembering and using them successfully over time.
Students can often recall something straight after learning it, but without regular review, this can quickly fade. Revisiting learning means coming back to what has already been taught so it becomes stronger, easier to remember, and ready to use. This process not only helps consolidate learning, but also supports new learning by connecting it to what students already know .
It’s easy to think that learning is mainly about new content. However, practice and remembering are just as important. Without this, knowledge is harder to access and apply. Each time students recall their learning, they strengthen and deepen their understanding, building connections and recognising patterns over time.
At Carnegie Primary, we embed review opportunities across the curriculum to support this. You might hear your child talk about:
These are short but powerful moments in the day and have a big impact on long term learning.
Through regular review, students build fluency, confidence and deeper understanding - working towards true mastery, where they can recall, explain and apply their learning with ease.
By consistently revisiting learning, we are helping students turn new information into lasting knowledge.
