Numeracy Morning-May 4th

Dear Parents and Carers,
We invite you to join us for our Numeracy Open Morning, with a clear focus on how you can support your child to build fluency at home.
Fluency is a combination of speed and accuracy. When students are fluent, they can quickly and accurately recall a mathematical fact or procedure from long-term memory and use it with ease.
Strong fluency reduces cognitive load. Students spend less time working on basic facts and more time solving problems, explaining their thinking, and applying what they know. It also supports students in tackling worded problems, generalising their learning, and applying maths in real-life situations. As fluency improves, understanding also strengthens. It also helps students manage multi-step problems more successfully.
Session format:
9:05 to 9:15 - Meet in the Hall of Champions for a short briefing
9:15 to 9:50 - Head to your child’s classroom to play and observe fluency games
This session will focus on practical strategies you can use at home.
What you will learn:
- What fluency is and why it matters
- How short, regular practice strengthens memory
- Why accuracy should be secured before focusing on speed
- Simple routines that fit into everyday family life
What you can do at home:
- Practise number facts for 5 to 10 minutes each day
- Keep practice short and consistent
- Use simple games to build engagement
- Ask your child to explain their thinking
- Revisit key facts often to support long-term memory
- Use tools such as Times Tables Rock Stars and other fluency games to support regular practice
- You will leave with clear, practical ideas and games you can use straight away to support your child’s fluency at home.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Best regards,
