Cyber Safety

In this day and age, the majority of students have grown up with the internet and technology as a regular part of life.

They use it:

  • both at school and for homework
  • as a source of information and entertainment
  • as a key communication tool
  • as a means to socialise

Digital learning is an important part of education today. When combined with quality teaching, the purposeful and effective use of digital technologies improves learning.

The majority of our students use the internet in school and out, therefore our students need to understand how to be safe online. At the beginning of each year, all students participate in cyber safety lessons to ensure that they are equipped with the tools they will need to become 21st Century Digital Citizens. It is an integral part of our Learning Technologies program at Park Orchards PS. It is important that, as a community, we teach our students from Foundation through to Year 6 how to be technologically able, aware and safe.

Cybersafety is the safe and responsible use of information and communication technology.  It is about keeping information safe and secure, but also about being responsible with that information, being respectful of other people online, and using good ‘netiquette’ (internet etiquette). Cyber safety is a team effort between the student, family and school.

We want our children to engage positively online so we encourage you to start the chat about online safety issues and strategies with your child.
