PREP NEWS

The Fun Week That Was in Prep!

Chinese New Years Celebrations

The atmosphere was filled with red, yellow and joy as our Preps enjoyed their first assembly and celebration for Chinese New Year. In the classroom we continued all things dragon related, with a dragon craft and maths dragon ‘I Spy’, working in partnership with a peer to count different dragons. It has been wonderful seeing the students work so collaboratively in all aspects.

Congratulations to our Student Of The Weeks:

Fionafor her unwavering compassion towards her teachers and peers. Her positivity and dedication to helping keep our class tidy and looking out for her peers is admirable.

Rileyfor her kindness in asking questions to her peers to build a friendly environment.

Literacy

Each week our students are introduced to two new sounds. This week we have enjoyed meeting our two new characters from the Little Learners Love Literacy Program – Felix the Frog which helps us remember the /f/ sound and Ally the alligator who helps us remember the /a/ sound. We wonder if students can find objects and things around them that begin with the /f/ and /a/ sound.

Numeracy Counting, counting and counting! We have been doing lots of counting activities with a focus on one-to-one correspondence. We also enjoyed our number formation in the sandpit which was lots of fun to explore Maths in the playground!

First Incursion: Responsible Pet Ownership

It was a pleasure having Lynette and her dog Jacqui who helped our students learn all about being a responsible pet owner but also how to connect and greet dogs. Whilst how to notice signs of an aggressive dog and what to do. It was very insightful and out students thoroughly enjoyed their first incursion.

Library

We enjoyed our first library borrowing session. Students learnt about library etiquette and impressively followed them to a tee! A friendly reminder Prep library day is Monday – therefore please remember to pack your childs library books for Monday to return in their reader pouch.

Team Bonding

As part of our connect program, students did a team bonding activity – balancing a hula hoop between partners walking it across a beam. Students have to work together and match each others pace to ensure a safe journey from one to the other. It was wonderful seeing the students vibrant smiles as they accomplished this together.

Homework

Our students came home with their first set of homework. Please read through the homework menu carefully and reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions.
