Community Connection

The celebration of the Lunar New Year was an amazing opportunity to bring the Box Hill North community together. I am most appreciative for all of the people involved behind the scenes to help ensure this event was positive. To all of the parents, families and volunteers who made and cooked over 2000 dumplings and spring rolls during the week, thank you. You would be hard pressed to find higher quality in a restaurant! Further thanks to those involved in sharing their Chinese calligraphy skills as part of a cultural experience.  Better understanding the importance of the Chinese New Year was a key focus and I have enjoyed hearing how much knowledge the children gained from this experience.  And a special mention to Mr Wong and his ability to get the most out of a narrow opportunity through his performing arts program.

Our next community event is on Tuesday next week. Classrooms will open from 3pm to invite family and friends to see the wonderful learning environments of our school. Parents will then have the opportunity to hear from the year level of their child/ren as we work in partnership to provided exceptional educational experiences. Following the information session, we invite families to join us for the Welcome Picnic. Lots of fun activities are planned, a petting zoo and live music; all designed to create a friendly atmosphere and opportunity for community connection.  On behalf of the staff, we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Maths is Everywhere!

Manipulating numbers, experimenting with problems and being curious about different concepts is evident in all of our learning spaces. Our vision for students to view mathematics as a way to navigate the world around us is in full swing and met with plenty of enthusiasm in and out of classrooms. I have particularly enjoyed seeing students in the Middles learn in small focus groups designed to challenge and support their key understandings and pathways. Behind the scenes, we have invested in a strong commitment to a professional learning agenda that continually builds the capacity of our already incredible staff. Led by Yasmin as our Learning Specialist for Maths, the energy and momentum is infectious!

Student Leadership

Our Year 6 students are looking forward to being part of the National Young Leaders Day, tomorrow at Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. Guest speakers including Anastasia Woolmer, Bryson Klein, Jane Bunn and Melissa Barbieri, headline this program. We look forward to hearing of their experience and new found skills to apply to Box Hill North.
