Classroom News

PREP

We have been very busy in Prep these past two weeks.

We have started PE with Dan on Mondays and our Specialist classes on a Tuesday. In week 2 we had DDT and Art, and this week we had Science and Music. In Science, we learnt all about Shrove Tuesday and we even got to make yummy pancakes.

Across the next couple of weeks, we will be practising for our Buddy Blessing in readiness for the Beginning of the Year Whole School Mass at St Mary’s Church. This will commence at 10am on Thursday the 29th of February.

We have been busy learning how to write our names with an uppercase letter to start and using lowercase letters for the rest. We have even been learning some sounds from our Little Learners Love Literacy program.

Here is what our Preps had to say this week.

“I like playing with my buddies and I EVEN like icy poles and I like playing with my friends!” - Luna Lamanna

“I like drawing and playing with friends.” - Eli Waterhouse

“My favourite thing about school is sport and I also like the oval.” - Tadhg Groves

“Playing with my friends and having icy poles at lunch time!” - Aurora Papkovics

GRADE 1/2

What a fantastic couple of weeks in Year 1/2. On Tuesday we made pancakes to celebrate Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday and on Wednesday we gathered together to pray and reflect on Ash Wednesday which is the beginning of the Catholic church season of Lent. We received ashes on our foreheads as a symbol of our preparation for Easter and read the story called I’m Sorry. It would be great if you could have a chat to your child about this prayer time.

Some of the Year 2 children will be participating in the parish Reconciliation program. If your child is taking part please bring your completed form to the parent information evening on Thursday (tonight) at St. Mary’s church. The meetings will be at 4pm and 7pm.

The children have brought home their counting goals to work on at their own pace, we look forward to checking in with them when you and they feel that they are competent at that goal.

Reminders:

Year 2 children to please bring labeled headphones to school.

No school on Wednesday as all staff will be at Professional Development in Warrnambool.

GRADE 3/4

WOW! Three weeks in already! In both Year 3 and Year 4 we have started looking at the text Matilda by Roald Dahl. The Year 4’s have enjoyed learning new and interesting vocabulary and exploring different literary devices. In both year levels we have begun discussing our Religion topic for this term - Choices. This has included learning about how the Fruits of Spirit can help us make choices that allow us to live in a ‘right relationship’ with God.

This week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making and eating pancakes, and Ash Wednesday by attending Mass. Ash Wednesday marks the start of a very important time in our Catholic calendar - Lent. We look forward to exploring the 3 pillars of Lent; Prayer, Fasting and Alms Giving.

We thought it would be fun to change up the way we do Marian News, from now on you will hear from our Year 3 and Year 4 students about what's been happening for us at school.

Yesterday we made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. We mixed flour, eggs, milk and butter together. We then poured the mixture into the boiling stove and got to flip the pancakes. While flipping Maddi made a big mess. We got to spread butter and jam on them. They were delicious and we got to eat them outside.

We researched about Shrove Tuesday. The tradition of having pancakes started in England. We also learned that Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights. - Immy, Maddi, Maya, and Sydney

Yesterday we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. I learned that Jesus walked through the desert with no food or water for 40 days and nights. - Hugo

Shrove Tuesday originated in Anglo-Saxon England. - Will Russell

Shrove Tuesday is a chance for us to use up our ‘rich food’ so that we can fast during Lent, as Jesus did in the desert. - Evie

GRADE 5/6

Two weeks down already…time really does fly when you’re having fun. We thought it would be fun to change up the way we do Marian News, from now on you will hear from one of our yr 5 and yr 6 students about what's been happening for us at school.

Charlotte - Grade 5 Rachel

At the moment we are doing joint handwriting some mornings and then type club other mornings. My favourite thing so far has probably been getting to know my teachers and getting class bucks. I am looking forward to Grade 5 camp and seeing who becomes S.R.C. members.

Spencer - Grade 6 Maegen

This week in Year 6 we have done a lot of things, a few of them are writing a story for our buddies, leadership captains and also reading a bit of Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have done some new reading tests and we have done one CFAT. On Wednesday Week 3, we went to a Mass in the church with Sacred Heart. We were celebrating Ash Wednesday with the 3s to 6s. We are looking forward to having the next Wednesday off because the teachers now have a turn of learning.
