Boarding

Welcome to 2024!

A wonderful beginning of the year has been had in Boarding this week. We welcomed our new families and our current families back to Kambala with our Welcome BBQ last Tuesday evening. It was a beautiful twilight event overlooking the harbour and the kindling of new friendships and connections for our families.

This week the girls have embarked on some afternoon activities of touch football, a walk to Vaucluse to the lighthouse and view of the ocean, and, many trips down to Rose Bay village to get acquainted with the variety of food shops - Oakberry Acai being a firm crowd favourite.

Last weekend we had our first IN Sunday where our girls learnt our Boarders War Cry in preparation for the upcoming swimming carnival and enjoyed a pool party complete with inflatables, pizza and icy poles.

We’re looking forward to the week ahead and the start of classes for our Year 7s and the settling into new routines.

What a great week!

A welcome from our Head Boarder

Welcome to boarding for 2024. For those returning, I hope you’ve had a rejuvenating break and are ready to jump back into boarding life. To our new boarders, a warm welcome to you all. The beginning of your boarding experience may be very thrilling and nerve-wracking, but on behalf of the wider boarding community, we are all here to support you throughout your adjustment to boarding. We are a tight-knit community, there is always going to be someone there to support you. As we embark on this journey together, let us embrace the spirit of sisterhood, respect, and humanity that defines our boarding house. Together, we can make this year memorable, rewarding, and filled with growth.

Throughout the year we have a lot of exciting events planned. From our annual boarding week, where we gather to celebrate the incredible sisterhood that we have cultivated and share that with the wider Kambala community, or the amazing school events such as the Music Festival and sporting carnivals.

It is my goal, as Head Boarder, to ensure that all of you feel heard and supported. Whether it's academic challenges, personal triumphs, or simply the day-to-day experiences of boarding life, my door is always open. I encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas, and concerns, as it is through communication and collaboration that we build a stronger and more connected community.

A consolidated boarding offering from 2025

Late last term we announced to our community an update regarding our Boarding offering at Kambala. For those that may have missed the announcement, please see below:

As a result of reviews by School Council and the Executive throughout 2023, we are excited to announce that the Kambala Boarding landscape will undergo a change in 2025. Boarding is a very important part of Kambala which, for generations, has given a Sydney-based schooling experience to girls from regional Australia, overseas and remote indigenous communities. Boarding has increased the diversity of our community and added to the overall enjoyment of all girls and is a cherished part of our offering. Our intention is to reinvigorate our Boarding by consolidating Boarding in the purpose-built Fernbank building.

This is an opportunity to develop a nurturing home where, after the school day, Boarders from Year 7 -12 will return to a family scale environment, supported by a weekly pastoral program that will ensure every girl is known, seen and valued. The building will be refreshed & rejuvenated to deliver a home away from home experience.

There is much operational detail to go through and we will continue to keep our Boarding families up to date as the plans progress. Our expected transition to this model is 2025.
