From the Principal

Welcome to Term 1 2024 and the first edition of the Whole Girl digital school newsletter. This newsletter is distributed every second Wednesday and is a publication that highlights some of the activities, events, and initiatives across the whole school. We trust you will enjoy reading it.

Last week I distributed a welcome letter to all families on Sundial.  For those that missed the communication I spoke of how delighted we were to welcome our girls back to school. It has been quiet without the laughter, chatter, and energy of our students.

Our special thoughts go to the new junior and senior girls who have joined us, and the Boarding students who have left their families for a year in our care. We hope they have begun to settle in well and that they will enjoy their time at our wonderful school. I met many new families last Friday at the Welcome Cocktail Party. It was a joyful occasion and once again demonstrated the strong sense of community that defines a Kambala educational journey for our girls and their families.

Our teachers are rested and rejuvenated, our grounds are pristine having undergone some modifications and refurbishment over the summer break and we know that 2024 will be a wonderful year at Kambala. For those who like to stay in touch with what is happening across the school, we suggest you follow our social channels (Instagram and Facebook) where there is daily activity posted for our community.

In other news, I am delighted to remind you that we have joined with Kincoppal-Rose Bay in providing a ferry service from the North Shore to Watsons Bay and return from Monday to Friday. This service has been initiated to support current and future families and staff who live on the North Shore. Having caught the service myself last week (it departs from Circular Quay, then Cremorne) I can attest that was a delightful way to start my day. 20 minutes across our beautiful harbour to Watsons Bay, where a bus picked us up and brought us to our school. See some of the photos in our senior school section. For more details about the service, please click here.

As a school community we continue to be guided by Humanity, Courage, Curiosity and Respect.  Our shared values and an understanding of behaviours that enact them enable a community to work and live together in positive collaboration. The beginning of a new year gives us a wonderful opportunity to reset our expectations to ensure we are aligned and collectively support our students, staff, and families to thrive.

This year we are working with all our students from the earliest years to Year 12 to ensure we are explicit about our value in action and take individual and collective responsibility for wellbeing. At Kambala, we define wellbeing as a positive sense of self, belonging and ability to draw upon the skills and resources to adapt and navigate life. This enables us to learn, flourish and contribute meaningfully to our school and communities.

A values framework helps us frame our interactions and expectations with our girls about how we support each other, how we participate, how we’re accepting of others’ ideas, how we listen and ask questions with curiosity and are kind, considerate and compassionate.  Collectively, our Kambala values shape our interactions and expectations with our students, our staff and our community and ensure we all play our part in making Kambala a positive and engaging learning environment for all.

Enjoy the term ahead.

Kind regards

Ms Jane Danvers
