FIZZICS EDUCATION INCURSION ~ LIQUID NITROGEN

                           Super cool science show!

On Thursday, 22nd February, we will be hosting a Fizzics Education Liquid Nitrogen Incursion where students in K-2 can see and assist in the many cool liquid nitrogen demonstrations. The combination of the children experiencing education and hands-on interaction will be an exciting experience.

Demonstrations will include:

  • Finding out how solids, liquids and gases change when rapidly heated and cooled.
  • Smashing a tennis ball! Shrinking a balloon instantly!
  • What happens to living things if they are frozen?
  • How can Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion explain a liquid nitrogen sprinkler?
  • Explore Charles Law using popping cans and expanding balloons.

We are all looking forward to this amazing Incursion!

NAPLAN Information: Year 3 & Year 5

Each year, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

NAPLAN 2024 will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March. A more detailed timetable for Sacred Heart's schedule will be distributed soon.

NAPLAN is just one part of our school learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school.

In preparation for NAPLAN, students will undertake activities to help them become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests. These activities do not assess student ability and will only be used as a means of practice.

The public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) is available to see the types of questions, tools and functions used in the NAPLAN tests.

Further information about NAPLAN is available on the NESA website (https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/k-10/understanding-the-curriculum/naplan/parent-information).

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher.
