Student Support Services

Dear school community,

We would like to inform you that we have two social workers based at our site, who are employees of the Education Department’s Student Support Service. The social workers both work part time and will support the school community with student wellbeing concerns which are impacting on their learning and engagement.

They will be involved in a variety of activities some of which include interaction with students through groups, assessments, counselling, and school events. However some of the activities will also involve consulting with staff and/or meeting with parents and caregivers.

The social work support is voluntary. If your child does not want to access support, the social worker will respect that decision. Where relevant, the social worker may provide guidance and suggestions to school staff and/or parents and caregivers about possible strategies and support options.

Students receiving support are encouraged to inform their parents they have received support from the social worker and, when appropriate, to discuss the interaction with the social worker with their parent/caregivers.

The social worker will also communicate limits to confidentiality and that certain information may need to be shared, especially when it involves risk to the students or others receiving a service.

There are some interventions led by the social worker, such as targeted group programs or therapy, where consent will be sought from both the student and parent/caregiver to commencement. This service and support do have criteria, is time limited and is available to students at no cost.

If you have any questions about the school based social worker, please contact the school.
