Year 8 Boys, Super 8 Cricket - “A Team” Finishes Runner Up @ Upper Hume

16 of our best Year 8 Boys competed yesterday in the Upper Hume Super 8 Cricket tournament at the Barr Reserve, against the 7 other secondary schools in our region (Wangaratta & Wodonga).

Our “A Team” finished 2nd overall - a big achievement to be the best school in Wangaratta (although Galen didn’t enter any teams on the day).

The A Team won their Pool easily, smashing the Wodonga Middle Years Felltimber campus 204-120, and crosstown rival Cathedral College'sB Team 151-130. They then stitched up Catholic College Wodonga's B Team in the Semi Final, 215-168.

In the Semi Final, Clarence Lampa put on a phenomenal performance. Coming in to bat with the team’s score on 99 after 6 overs and with 2 overs left, he pulverised an incredible 56 runs from one single over. Cracking 4 sixes over the bowler's head, each of which scored double runs, he went 12, 8, 12, 12, dot ball, and 12 from 6 balls.

For good measure, Clarence then took two wickets from his 1st two balls to find himself on a Hat Trick, before finishing with 3 wickets from his 6-ball over.

Even more remarkably though, Clarence had done the same in the previous match against Felltimber. In one over he went bang with 6, 12, 12, 6, 12 and 4, to chalk up 52 from 6 deliveries. What a talent he is, in every Sport he tries his hand at.

Zach Wills was the chief wicket taker in the Pool matches and Semi Final with 6 in total including 3 in the big win against Cathedral, while Xavier Garsed, Hugh Spring and Andrew Fraser all picked up 3 to match Clarence's figures.

They met the Catholic College Wodonga A Team in the Grand Final, but succumbed 116-203 - a gallant effort against a school with 1250 students, well over twice our number.

Our “B Team” had a tougher draw, losing to the eventual champion (Catholic College Wodonga A) 70-206, as well as Victory Lutheran College Wodonga A (121-173).

For our B Team, it was a spread of wicket takers with Lachlan Downing leading the crew with 3, and Isaac Robinson and Thomas Fieldew snaring a pair each.

Big thank you to the boys for representing us, Newmo for running the day, Ash Clayton for coaching, and a wonderful bunch of year 8 girls who went as helpers - Ruby Burns, Liv Day, Kaity Ford, Ruby O'Kane, Poppy Scholte and Taylah Wyatt.

As usual, we attach Team Photos here which will appear in our end-of-year Sport Magazine.
