Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
On Monday evening, our Year 7 students and their families came together to share a meal and celebrate their new beginnings at St Brigid's College. Joined by our Teacher Advisors, teaching and support staff, and Year 12 student leaders, students and families were able to chat in a relaxed environment and get to know one another. It was a lovely way to kick start a life long connection with St Brigid's.
It has been great to have all our students and staff back for our first full week of Term 1, 2024. Here are some photos from the beginning of the school year, including welcoming our new Year 7 students, Sister Jacinta addressing the school on the Feast Day of Saint Brigid, and our new PE uniform looking great!
Our Year 12 students spent two nights in Halls Gap on retreat last week. They arrived home, a little tired but with smiles on their face!
Earlier this month, some of our students had great results at the Western Country Region Little Athletics Carnival in Ballarat.
Peter (Year 11) & Luke White (Year 7) competed and out of 10 events, they won 7 medals between them with personal bests in High Jump, 200m Hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m. Well done!
Hannah (Year 10) and Joel Plazzer (Year 7) also competed. Hannah placed 2nd in 100m, 200m, Javelin and Discus and 3rd in Long Jump. Joel placed 3rd in Hurdles. Well done Plazzers!
Last week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday, an important date in the Catholic calendar, signifying the eve of Lent. Take a look at the preparation and planning done by the Year 11 Accounting students who embarked on an engaging project to bring this year's Shrove Tuesday to life. The students each took on a role including creating and distributing marketing materials, estimating material costs and developing a comprehensive sales spreadsheet. Last week, both students and staff eagerly placed their pre-orders, facilitated by the Accounting students who managed cash transactions and operated the EFTPOS machine. Many students and staff were involved in preparing the pancakes, fostering a vibrant celebration of Shrove Tuesday. The proceeds from the pancake sales will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Last week, our Year 12 cohort spent three days in Halls Gap for Retreat. The aim of the retreat were for the students to take time to reflect, to mend and build genuine relationships, and develop shared aspirations for the year ahead.
The students were asked to reflect on how the story of Jacob in the Old Testament may inspire their lives by discerning on who they really are and what are their biggest fears as they enter adult life. Fr Matt Restall joined the Class of 2024 for a Liturgy in which we considered how God can be seen in the beauty of nature. Students also undertook a ceremony of reconciliation in which they asked forgiveness for any harm they have done to relationships. As a team building exercise, every member of the group assisted in carrying a 20 litre jerry can on a 2 kilometre hike, which symbolised the fact that when things get tough this year, they can help each other out to achieve their goals.
It’s great to hear that the students found the time spent away very valuable. A couple of highlights from students were:
- “Working in small groups as we got to know each other better and could be honest and comfortable”
- "Everyone really connecting”
- “Carrying the jerry can was hard but the teamwork was amazing”
- “We really got to understand how much people appreciate each other, and how much of in impact you can have on someone’s life”
We congratulate St Brigid's College students Plot Nyo (Year 11) and Eh Ku Gay Taw (Year 12), who have been named in the 2024 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council. Congratulations!
