Principal

This week is Reconciliation Week, and this year's theme is "Now More Than Ever." It's a great time for us to reflect on our shared history and celebrate the cultures and achievements of Indigenous Australians.

Division Cross Country

Congratulations to the ten students in Year 3-6 who ran at the Division Cross Country yesterday.  It was great to see students from our local schools racing.  A very big congratulations to the seven students who made it through to the next stage – Regional on June 13.  What an amazing achievement for them and Solway!  Students representing Solway at the Regional event: Grace H, Jaxon S, Jensen M, Henry K, Indiah H, Millie H and Rowan P.  We wish these seven all the best at the Regional event and look forward to hearing how they go!

Chess Tournament

Congratulations to the eight Solway students who represented us at the Chess Tournament at Mount Waverley PS on Tuesday 14 May.  They played very well and have made it through to the next stage.  We look forward to hearing more details about when they will play this second stage of the tournament.

Pupil Free Day and Long Weekend

Friday 7 June is a curriculum day when our staff will take part in professional learning focusing on both Numeracy in the morning and Wellbeing in the afternoon.  Monday 10 June is a Public Holiday, and the school will be closed.  We hope our families enjoy the extra day over the long weekend and have a chance to enjoy the short break.

Playground

The playground update is finally due to start on Tuesday 11 June.  This area will be out of bounds while the work is being completed. We look forward to opening the new playground in Term three.

Education Week and Book Fair

A big thank you to all the staff and students for hosting and parents and special visitors for the open numeracy session on Wednesday 15 May.  It was a great afternoon, and the students had a wonderful time sharing their learning with the community! We hope everyone enjoyed it.

A big thank you to Louise Pearson for organising the bi-annual book fair in on Friday 17-Tuesday 21 May. This was a huge success and has allowed the school to gain credit to purchase new books for the library!  We thank everyone for their support.

Rubbish and the School Grounds

We love that families choose to spend time in the schoolyard, particularly after school and on weekends, when students can play with friends and parents can socialise. We ask families to help us reduce the school’s waste by using the rubbish bins or taking home any wrappers and containers, rather than leaving rubbish in the yard.  We also ask that if you notice people in the school grounds that you ask them to do the same. We have been finding a number of items left in the school grounds over weekends or evenings and our students and staff are left to clean up the grounds.  We pride our school on our 5-star sustainability status, however the increased rubbish is tarnishing our name in the local community.

Traffic Safety

Please take care and pay close attention to road rules around the crossings.  Please follow parking signs and restrictions and use your indicators to keep all our community, especially our students, safe.

Bikes and Scooters

To ensure everyone’s safety, riding bikes and scooters is not permitted in the school yard between 8:30am-3:45pm.  We ask all students, parents and community members to follow this safety rule.

Congratulations

Jacinta Le Ralph (Visual Arts teacher in 2023) and her husband Ben who welcomed their first child, a daughter, Joni on 20 March 2024.  Mum and baby doing very well!
