Mental Health & Wellbeing

We are excited to announce an opportunity through our partners at FedCare who would like to host the SibWorks Program this term. We wanted to share some details about this fantastic opportunity and how your child can get involved.

What is SibWorks?

SibWorks is a peer support program specifically designed for children aged 8-12 who have a brother or sister with a disability, chronic illness, or significant mental health diagnosis. This includes children with siblings who may have Autism, ADHD, intellectual or physical disabilities, or chronic health conditions.

What Does SibWorks Offer?

The program aims to provide a supportive environment where children can:

Understand More About Disability: Through interactive sessions, children will gain a better understanding of disability and functional challenges.

Feel Less Alone: SibWorks offers a safe space for children to connect with others who may share similar experiences, helping them to feel less isolated.

Learn Coping Skills: Participants will explore new ways to manage difficult emotions and situations, equipping them with valuable coping strategies.

Build Confidence: By participating in activities and discussions, children will develop a more positive outlook on their role as siblings.

We are aiming for 8-10 students to take part in the program. Sessions can be conducted either over 6 x 2-hour weekly sessions or in a block of 2 days, depending on what works best for the majority of families.

If you believe your child would benefit from SibWorks, could you please email Will Georgiou at William.georgiou@education.vic.gov.au before Friday the 17th of May.

We believe this will be a valuable opportunity to our school community. If you have any questions or would like further information, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
