What’s Happening in Careers?

Year 10

Our MyPath subject selection presentations are almost complete  - Digital Technology and English will complete the series in extended form next Tuesday.

This week we had presentations from Science and Design and Technology. The PowerPoints for these presentations have been emailed to students and parents so you can review them at home and discuss the options.

The event planning for our exciting MyPath week in Week 10 is in full swing. There is a great range of events to help the boys broaden their understanding of their subject selection and career options.

This is an overview of what the week will look like for them:

Year 11

We wish all of our Year 11 students great success in the exams or in workplace learning.

Year 12

Our Year 12s are also out on WPL, working on their Certificate IVs or sitting exams. We hope they are all coping well and enjoying the challenges of these weeks.

On Friday, August 9, all of the WA universities will be at Mazenod to have individual conversations with the Year 12s about course options. The boys have been sent a booking link to make these appointments.

Bookings will close on Monday, so please make sure these have been made.

This is the link to make your selections: Book a university consultation session

The boys will have 15 minutes with the university counsellor. They may book meetings with as many of the universities as they like so if they are undecided, they should make the most of this opportunity. Curtin University has 2 counsellors attending in order to meet the demand.

Bookings will be on a first-in basis. If they miss out on a booking, please ask them to let me know and I will see what I can arrange.

TISC

TISC is now open.

Early Offers will start after the Semester One exams and most offers are conditional on meeting requirements. These will be laid out in their offer letters.

Offers will be sent out once per month from July to December.

If they are intending to apply for university, they will need to apply through TISC. Registration is online and a fee of $92 is payable before they can set up their preferences. These preferences can be changed as many times as they like before the offers round.

Offers will be out before Christmas.

The boys have had two sessions on TISC applications but if they have further questions they should seek help from the Careers team.

University Information

The universities have all listed their Open Days Register using these links and plan your day so you can make the most of the offerings. It is really important that the boys get on campus and ask lots of questions before they make final decisions.

If you have a child in years 9-12, they’re probably starting to have conversations about their pathway to university. Whether they’re set on a course and a career or want to learn more about what to expect, they’ll have questions about their next steps. And of course, you will too. We’ll be running two information sessions – one for year 9 and 10 parents and guardians, and another for year 11 and 12 parents and guardians.

Parents are encouraged to bring their child along to these sessions, joining us either online or in person. If you are attending in person, you’ll also have the opportunity to join us at the expo before or after your session to chat with Curtin experts from across the uni.

What you can expect from this session:

  • Learn about early offers – what they are and how they can help your child
  • Find out more about the various entry pathways
  • Discover our scholarships, including those that consider extracurricular activities your child might undertake during high school
  • Gain insights from Curtin students about their learning experience, support services and the study skills that help to reduce stress
  • Talk with course experts at the expo after the session.

The universities will be in attendance at our Mazenod MyPath Careers Expo on 18 June.

Year 12 students will also have the opportunity to book individual consultations with university course advisors on campus here on 9 August.

The Careers Department

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have access to The Careers Department. There is a huge wealth of information on this site, where students can explore industries in depth to find out more about the careers and industries they are interested in. It also has a resume builder, digital portfolio, virtual work experience, scholarship finder, job finder and micro-credentialing opportunities. So much to explore!

As parents, you also have access to these resources. Your account will be linked to your son’s account, allowing you to explore together.

There are two ways to connect to your son’s account.

1. Students can invite their parents from their 'Profile' > 'Your account' > scroll to the bottom of this page and add their parent's email address.

2. Go to the login page and follow the prompts to set up an account. Once inside, you will be directed to explore the site and link to your child's account. Your child should already have an active student account, so you will not need to pay for the platform. If he hasn’t registered, do this first. You will need to enter the correct email address according to your son’s account and your son will need to accept the connection.
