Prep  News

What a fantastic Term of learning it has been for the Preps!

As part of our unit of inquiry into Place we have taken on the role of researchers and have been going on weekly discovery walks around Elwood to explore our central idea:

People care for and look after places that are special to them.

Through these walks the Preps have developed a special bond to the natural environment in Elwood, especially our beach and canal system. They have been inspired to create their very own Elwood in our classroom using mapping, Beebots and Make-do.

In Literacy we have been working hard on our writing and are using strategies such as Fred Fingers and say the word slowly to spell words. We have been authors and learnt that everyone can make books and started creating our own right away. We have created books about unicorns, beach days, flying cars and much more! We have also been working hard in our phonics time and now know all the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. How clever are we!

We have enjoyed many hands-on activities in numeracy this term. We explored the importance of using hands as tools in our journey as mathematicians, and took on the role of researchers to explore how our hands can help us solve problems and count. We also learned about 2D shapes and explored the words we can use to describe shapes!

The Preps should be extremely proud of the work they have put into their learning this Semester, great work Preps!
