Grip Leadership

On Tuesday, 14th May, our Year 6 School Leaders Grace Groves and Emily Valks embarked on a unique journey at the Grip Leadership conference held at Tamworth Town Hall. The day was a deep dive into the sacrifices leaders make and the qualities that define a good leader. Our leaders, Grace and Emily, had the privilege of engaging in practical group work tasks with leaders from other schools, enriching their understanding of leadership.

Here are a few key takeaways written by Grace and Emily:

  1. Put in your own needs and wants first.
  2. You will miss out on things.
  3. Helping people is the key to being a leader.
  4. Getting something in return is only sometimes expected.

Throughout the day, presenters highlighted that you don't need a badge to be a leader and should never forget that you are doing your best.

One keynote speaker reminded us that we can't always solve issues as leaders, although it may feel like the pressure is only on us at times. As school leaders, we need to remember that we always have some fellow leader friends who can help us with the problems we may experience and that every once in a while, a leader has a fallout.

An important reminder discussed was to try to avoid being bossy to others and not always expect to get what you want.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miss Langfield and Miss Dorrington for their invaluable support in facilitating Emily and Grace's participation in the conference. Their commitment to our students' leadership development is commendable. We are truly fortunate to have two confident leaders, Emily and Grace, in our Sacred Heart School community, who embody the essence of true leadership on a daily basis.
