Eligibility Reassessment with the NDIS When Your Child Turns 7

When a child with a Global Developmental Delay (GDD) diagnosis turns 7, their eligibility for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) may be reassessed. This is an important process that helps determine whether your child continues to meet the eligibility criteria and ensures they are receiving the appropriate supports and services as they grow. It also ensures your child remains supported by the full scheme for ongoing support.

During the reassessment, the NDIS will want to review your child’s formal diagnosis, which may include conditions such as intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, or a chromosomal disorder, among others. Gathering the right evidence is crucial to ensure the process goes smoothly.

This may include:

1.           Medical or diagnostic reports

2.           Assessments

3.           Letters from current supports, such as:

              - External therapists

              - School

              - Family statement

We recommend starting the reassessment process well before your child turns 7 to avoid any disruptions in support services.  As the NDIS Navigator here at Hamlyn Views School I am here to help guide you through the next steps.  Please reach out to me if you think I can help.  Catherine.price3@education.vic.gov.au
