Literacy

This term in Writing, we are exploring narrative writing through a range of classic fairy tales. Our focus is on understanding the important elements that make up a story — the characterssettingproblem and solution. Each week, we will dive into a new fairy tale, discussing what makes it interesting and how authors use language to bring stories to life. So far, we’ve explored Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs, where the children loved acting out the storiesretelling the sequence of events, and talking about how the characters solved their problems. These hands-on activities help students develop rich vocabulary, comprehension and story structure understanding. As the term continues, the Preps will begin planning and writing their very own narratives, using their imagination to create original characters, settings and storylines. It’s going to be a magical term full of creativity and storytelling!

Maths:

In Term 4 Maths, we are looking deeper into data — learning how to collect, organise and display information in fun and meaningful ways. Students will explore how to represent data using graphs, charts and tallies, and discuss what the information shows. We’ll also be revisiting and consolidating key maths concepts we’ve covered throughout the year, such as number, patterns, addition, subtraction, shapes and measurement, to strengthen understanding and build confidence. It’s a great way for students to celebrate how far they’ve come and finish their first year of maths on a strong note!

Inquiry/Science

In Inquiry this term, we are exploring the life cycles of animals and discovering how living things grow and change. Each week, we will focus on a different animal, such as a frog, butterfly, and other fascinating creatures, learning about the unique stages in their life cycle. Students will observe, compare and discuss how each animal develops from birth to adult. To support our learning, we will have an exciting Butterfly Incursion, where students can see real butterflies up close and experience their life cycle in action. It’s a wonderful hands-on way to connect science with curiosity and discovery! 🦋🐸
