Junior Years - Term 4 - Weeks 1 & 2
Foundation
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning the sound-symbol correspondences for ‘ng’ (like in sing) and ‘ay’ (like in day). We have also been focussing on reading and writing new tricky words ‘some’ and ‘come’. We have revisited tricky words that begin with ‘th’ such as ‘this’, ‘that’, ‘them’, ‘they’,’there’ and ‘the’.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning about sharing and grouping. The students have been using hands on materials to share equal groups and groups with a remainder.
Religion
In Religion, our topic is, ‘We are Special’. Students have been learning about what makes them unique. They have shared with each other what special talents and gifts they have. We will be leading Assembly prayer on Friday 24th October in Week 3.
Inquiry
In Inquiry our topic is, 'How did that work?’. We have been exploring how materials can be changed physically by different actions without changing their material composition, including bending, twisting, stretching, crushing, squashing, and breaking into smaller pieces.
At home you could reinforce learning by:
- Listening to your child read their reader each night.
- Practice reading and writing tricky words found in the back of the Home Reading Diary.
- Practice handwriting lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Year One
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning about the prefix ‘un’ in words such as unhappy, unlock and unscrew. We have been learning about how to read and write long words with two, three and four syllables. We have been focusing on spelling tricky words: talk, walk, know, laugh, every, people.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning about ordinal numbers and language used to describe location. We have focused on using verbal language and written instructions to change locations. We explored features on an analogue clock and the days, weeks and months of a year.
Religion
In Religion our topic is ‘Our call to Mission’. The students will gain an appreciation of the importance of giving, sharing and helping those in need.
Inquiry
In Inquiry our topic is, 'How did that work?’. We have been exploring how materials can be changed physically by different actions without changing their material composition, including bending, twisting, stretching, crushing, squashing, and breaking into smaller pieces.
At home you could reinforce learning by:
- Listening to your child read their reader each night.
- Practice spelling our tricky words (talk, walk, know, laugh, every, people.) and writing them in sentences.
- Practice handwriting on dotted thirds lines.
Complete the maths problem below...
Draw on paper or create an obstacle course using objects. Describe the directions verbally or written about how to complete the obstacle course using language and words such as backwards, forwards, left, right, turn and straight ahead.
Year Two
Literacy
In Literacy, we have been learning about words ending in ‘tion’ Words such as action, station, fiction, option. We have been spelling words in syllables as well. First syllable of mention and breaking down the next syllable so we have ‘men’ and then ‘tion’.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning how to extend our knowledge of halves then quarters and this week eights. This is the revision of our fraction work.
Religion
In Religion our topic is ‘Our call to Mission’. The students will gain an appreciation of the importance of giving, sharing and helping those in need.
Inquiry
In Inquiry our topic is, 'How did that work?’. We have been exploring how materials can be changed physically by different actions without changing their material composition, including bending, twisting, stretching, crushing, squashing, and breaking into smaller pieces.

- Practice spelling our tricky words which are women, after and laugh and write them in sentences.
- Listening to your child read their reader each night.
