Prep News

Learning Centre Three

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of excitement—from the creativity on full display at the Book Week Parade, to the countless hours of preparation behind the scenes. We had so much fun celebrating with all the amazing outfits, and all of our hard work truly came to life this week with a spectacular production that exceeded all expectations!

Book Week Parade

We had a very successful Book Week Parade, where students dazzled everyone by arriving in a stunning array of beautiful and creative costumes. Each outfit reflected their imagination and enthusiasm, turning the parade into a vibrant celebration of stories and characters that truly brought the event to life.

Production

The children dedicated many hours of practice and rehearsal, pouring their energy and enthusiasm into every aspect of the production. Their hard work paid off brilliantly, resulting in a fantastic performance that showcased their talent, teamwork, and commitment.

Reading Awards

Congratulations to everyone who is continuing to read at home and working steadily toward their next certificate! Regular practice outside the classroom really strengthens the skills we build during our daily phonics lessons. Every night that your child reads a decodable text, a library or home book, or practices speed words and sounds, please be sure to record it in their reading journal. This simple habit helps track progress and keeps the momentum going!

Thank you

Thank you so much to all parents for your incredible hard work, collaboration, and dedication in making our production such a wonderful success. We deeply appreciate your support in helping your child prepare both their Book Week Parade outfit and their production costume. Your efforts truly make all the difference, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

Maths:

In Maths, we have begun our unit on sharing and grouping. Using a range of hands-on materials, including animals and food items, we have been learning to subitise to identify the size of groups in a collection, to solve problems by sharing collections, and to recognise amounts that can be shared equally between different groups.

Religion:

In Religion, students have been adding their learning to their own booklets. These booklets show their learning about how to share, help, and show love to others. Students are also adding in how they can recognise the unique gifts God has given them and are practising how to share these gifts to connect and support others.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, we have been finishing off our unit on digital technology. We have been exploring different apps to decide if they are safe or not safe to use at school. Over the last few weeks we have explored the use of the camera, weather, EPIC, pic collage and the QR reader apps. Through the use of the QR reader we had to move around our indoor and outdoor learning spaces and try to find the green sheep (based on the ‘Where is the green sheep’ book). It took us a long time to find the green sheep, who was actually hiding behind Gillian.

Literacy:

In Literacy, we have been using two different books, based on a penguin, for our book studies, Lost and Found and Up and Down, written by Oliver Jeffers. We have been using the illustrations within these books to identify what we can see and then write sentences that match them.
