Learning and Teaching

Dear LPS families,

Celebrating the whole child at LPS

At LPS, we are often recognised for our many successes in sport. Our students regularly achieve wonderful results on the field and court, and we are proud of the way they represent our school. But over the last two weeks, we’ve been reminded that our vision goes well beyond sporting success; we are dedicated to developing the whole child and encouraging personal excellence in every area of school life.

Our recent Grade 5 camp and whole school production have showcased this beautifully. Both provided opportunities for students to step outside their comfort zones, try something new, and support one another through moments of challenge and triumph.

On camp, we saw students conquer fears, whether it was climbing high on the vertical challenge, attempting the giant swing or trying activities they had never attempted before, (and parents, every student learnt how to cook damper and wash the equipment they used!). What stood out most was not just the courage of individuals, but the way classmates rallied around each other, celebrating every effort. Students who were initially unsure about even attending camp came home with big smiles and a sense of achievement.

In our school production, we witnessed a similar transformation. For many, stepping onto the stage was nerve-racking at first. Yet once the curtain rose, those same students found joy and confidence in performing. By the final show, they didn’t want to leave the theatre, sad that it was over, but proud of what they had accomplished together.

Another joyful reminder of the growth we see every day comes when students visit my office to proudly share their work. This week, our Preps delighted me with their writing, showing just how far they’ve come already, and also their love for chips! Their excitement and pride in their learning is a wonderful example of personal excellence in action.

These experiences highlight that personal excellence takes many forms. It’s about persistence, resilience, creativity, and teamwork. It’s about supporting each other and celebrating every step of growth, not just the end result.

At LPS, sport will always be a proud part of who we are, but so too are the opportunities for students to shine in drama, music, outdoor education, and personal development. The last fortnight has been a wonderful reminder that our Pegasus Spirit lives in all these moments, and in every child.
