As a school community we have celebrated a number of events in the past week.

Happy Father's Day

With Fathers day around the corner the school was buzzing with excitement.

On Friday the 5th of September, the whole school had a Father’s Day activities afternoon. The afternoon gave us the chance to spend time with and show gratitude to our father figures. It was a fun and heartwarming event that brought smiles to dads, students and families. There was a range of activities that encouraged everyone to spend some quality time together and it was clear how much everyone enjoyed and appreciated the afternoon. The school was filled with smiles, laughter and special moments that we’ll all remember. Some of the outside activities to choose from included: tennis, table tennis, netball, basketball, footy and soccer! Inside there was also: chess, a Kahoot and some crafty activities. We were all very fortunate to have lots of sunshine which made the afternoon a whole lot better!

Year 1/2 - Be You Assembly

Last Wednesday the whole Year 1/2 level performed a meaningful assembly about the book ‘Be You!’ by Peter Reynolds. It reminded us that it’s okay to be who you are. It was wonderful to see everyone come together, share and celebrate themselves with confidence and kindness. The assembly was fantastic and reminded each and everyone of us to express ourselves to be curious, kind, patient, brave, honest and most importantly… BE YOU!

Writing Competition Rotary Awards

Yesterday’s assembly announced the winners of the writing competition run by the Rotary Club of Monash. This writing competition was a contest throughout Monash for the Year 3/4 students to take part in. This year's theme was about ‘Let us Hope for Peace’. After all of the students created a piece of writing, 2 students' work was selected to be put through into the competition to represent the school.

Nikias Wang from 3/4G and Leah Mariampillai from 3/4H were chosen as part of the process. Nikias, runner up for our school, wrote a story about a boy who lost both of his parents through the war and how he was raised by his grandmother. He wanted to change the world and wanted to end the war in his country.

Leah wrote a story about Malala Yousafzai’s life. Malala is a Pakistan activist who helps uphold girl’s rights from the Pakistani Taliban. Her story ends with the fact that that on the way home from her school, she was shot. However, she did survive after her injuries. Malala went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at the age of 17. This story didn’t only make Leah the winner for our school, she was the overall winner in the competition which includes up to 9 schools in the area.

The school is very proud of these achievements and they will soon receive a plaque from the Rotary Club.

A big congratulations to both Leah and Nikias.
