Griffins Finals News

With the winter sports season approaching its conclusion, Griffins teams are competing strongly in their final's campaigns. Below is a full update from across our sports.

Hockey Finals

The Griffins hockey teams are also enjoying a brilliant finals campaign, with some great results already and more excitement to come:

The 7/8/9 Girls – Defeated Spencer Park to qualify for the Grand Final on Friday 19 September.
7/8/9 Boys Blue overcame Barker in the qualifier, while Griffins Red then defeated Barker in the preliminary final. This sets up an all-Griffins clash in the Grand Final on Saturday 20 September – a fantastic achievement for the club!
10/11/12 Girls – Claimed victory over Spencer Park to move into the Grand Final on Friday 19 September.
Women’s B – Had a strong win over North Albany and now face Spencer Park in the prelim this Saturday.
Men’s B – Will play North Albany in the prelim on Wednesday 10 September.

Netball Finals

Our Griffins netballers have done us proud this season, with several teams making it into finals:

A3 – In a heart-stopping match, Griffins 4 defeated Griffins 3, 54–53, after extra time! Griffins 4 now moves on to play Kangas 4 on Saturday 13 September at 1.20pm, Court 3.
A6 – Griffins 7 played superbly to overcome Narrikup 8, 40–19, securing their place in the next round. They now face Magpies 5 on Saturday 13 September at 3.00pm, Court 7.
B1 – Griffins 8 showed their strength with a commanding 51–19 win over Kangas 8. They’ll now challenge Royals 6 on Saturday 13 September at 11.40am, Court 4.
B2 – Royals 7 defeated Griffins 9, 39–34, in a hard-fought contest.
D1 – Narrikup 14 proved too strong for Griffins 12, winning 39–14.

We are so proud of all our netball teams. Let’s keep the momentum going – come along and cheer them on this weekend!

Soccer Cup Round

Our Griffins soccer players have had an excellent season, and the Cup rounds are bringing even more highlights:

Women’s Socials Cup Final – This team, made up of Junior School staff, Senior School students, and mums of players, has had a fantastic season under the guidance of Mr Stephen Berryman. They now head into the Cup Final on Friday, 19 September at 6.15pm, Pitch C3.
Under 12's Cup Round – Our U12 team has fought their way into the next stage and will take on Denmark Black on Saturday13 September at 9.00am, on B1 (Little Athletics Oval).

We encourage our Griffins community to attend and support our teams in their upcoming finals matches this weekend.

Registrations Update

Griffins Basketball is almost at capacity for the 2025/26 season! Registration emails have been sent to players, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

We still have a few spots available and would love your help filling them. We’re especially looking for players in the following age groups:

U/10 Girls (born 2017 or 2018)
U/12 Boys (born 2015 or 2016)

Coaches & Managers Pre-Season Meeting

Wednesday, 17 September at 6.30pm at Retravision Stadium

Volunteers Needed – Coaches & Team Managers for a team to be registered, both a coach and a team manager must be in place.

We are seeking volunteers to step into these vital roles and warmly encourage parents and community members to consider assisting. No prior experience is required – the Club provides full guidance and support to ensure you feel confident in your responsibilities.

Griffins Soccer Canteen – Cancelled

Unfortunately, Albany Primary School was unable to hold their fundraising canteen last weekend due to bad weather. In the spirit of fairness, the Griffins have chosen to forfeit our second canteen allocation so that APS can take this opportunity instead.

Griffins Hockey Bags

A big shoutout to our 7/8/9 girls hockey players – Maggie, Maddie, Zara, and Poppy – for their brilliant idea to design a Griffins hockey bag. After noticing other clubs with their own bags, the girls approached the committee with their idea and took the lead on creating a design.

Last Thursday, the bags arrived, and they were an instant hit with our players! Thank you, girls, for your creativity and initiative – we love the new bags!

Save the Date – Griffins Winter Sports Wind-Up

Mark your calendars! The Griffins Winter Sports Wind-Up will be held on Sunday 21 September in the Multi-Purpose Sport Complex.

The event will follow the same fun format as last year, with plenty of celebrations and an opportunity to recognise the hard work and achievements of our players, coaches, and volunteers throughout the season. Further details will be shared soon by your team manager.

Griffins Hockey

Griffins Hockey is hosting the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association Awards Night this Saturday 13 September. It will be a great night with food, live music and prizes. Please see the link below for tickets.

Griffins Merchandise and Uniforms

Players can order the Griffins training gear and supporter merchandise from the Griffins site Shop - Great Southern Griffins. A range of hoodies, tops, pants and accessories are available to buy. There are limited stocks of hoodies, but more will be added at the end of the month.
