VaCS Arts Showcase
This Wednesday, we were fortunate to witness the incredible talents of our students during the VaCS Arts Showcase. Students from Years Ten to Twelve have been working hard all term during VaCS sessions to prepare for this event.
The afternoon began with the final of the debating competition, where Baudin faced off against Wilson on the topic: “Cringe Culture is harming our youth.”
We heard compelling arguments from both sides, one highlighting how cringe culture discourages young people from trying new things and expressing themselves and the other defending it as a tool for developing social awareness, humour and resilience. In the end, Baudin emerged victorious.
Following the debate, we were treated to a high-energy “Battle of the Bands”, with all four Houses performing their renditions of classic hits. The gym came alive with music from The Offspring, Black Sabbath and Bon Jovi - our students truly rocked the stage! To top it off, the staff band surprised us with an encore performance of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”
A huge thank you to all students and staff who participated and helped organise this magical event.
Kingfisher Fair & Open Day – Postponed
We are disappointed to announce that the Kingfisher Fair has been postponed. A tremendous amount of work has gone into planning this event and while we are saddened not to celebrate together just yet, we are already looking forward to its next instalment.
Our Learning Areas had prepared engaging static and dynamic displays, musicians were rehearsed and ready and the Art and Technologies exhibitions were set to impress. We were also expecting a visit from the Griffins for a basketball clinic.
On a brighter note, there is still a chance to enjoy some of what was planned: creARTe Art Exhibition will be open this Sunday and wine from the 2025 vineyard will be available for purchase. I had a taste this week and can thoroughly recommend it!
We are also looking forward to the Kingfisher Concert next week. Stay tuned!
Commendation Lunch
This week, we hosted a special Commendation Lunch to celebrate students who received commendations this term. Teachers who nominated students were also invited to join the celebration.
Commendations were awarded for a wide range of contributions, from helping host campus tours and winning the People’s Choice award for a documentary in English, to supporting younger students on the bus and consistently helping in woodwork classes.
Students from all year levels enjoyed a shared lunch with our 2025 Year Twelve leaders and Heads of House. Congratulations to all recipients!
R U OK? Day
Today, we acknowledged R U OK? Day by encouraging students to wear a yellow accessory to school. The Student Council has created a wonderful initiative and have done a mountain of work to promote this day. There was a cake stall at lunch and hopefully plenty of conversations between friends and families.
Guest Speaker: Paris McNeil
Next Monday 15 September, we welcome guest speaker Paris McNeil to speak with our Year Nine students. Paris is a dynamic keynote speaker who brings a relatable perspective to important issues facing young people today.
She will be addressing the new Social Media Laws and their impact on youth. That evening, the City of Albany will host a parent workshop with Paris at the Albany City Civic Rooms, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
We strongly encourage parents to attend this valuable session to better understand how these changes may affect your child and how to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

Student Spotlight: Edmund Toomey (Camfield) Shines at National MTBO Event
We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Edmund, one of our talented Year Nine students, who recently competed in the Australian Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) championships.
Edmund’s dedication, skill and perseverance were on full display as he took on this challenging national event. His impressive performance is a testament to his hard work and passion for the sport.
We are incredibly proud to see Edmund’s efforts recognised on such a prestigious stage congratulations on this fantastic accomplishment!
