Wellbeing Talks – Pastoral Care Program at Monivae
This term we have been incredibly lucky to have some fabulous guest speakers. They have spoken to all year levels, tailoring their presentations and content to each year level to ensure positive messaging and outcomes.
MELI- ‘Know the Score’
We thank Courtney Guy from MELI in Warrnambool, who presented some very engaging and thought-provoking sessions around gaming and gambling. She encouraged students to critically think about gambling and the risks involved.
Students considered the concept of ‘normalisation’ through advertising and media campaigns, the odds of winning, money lost to gambling locally and in the state of Victoria, and support services that are available for all members of the community.
Courtney also spoke about gaming and how many apps and games on phones have elements of gambling which students need to be wary of.
More information for families on the impacts of gambling can be found on our Monivae School TV page at: https://monivae.schooltv.me/newsletter/gambling
This is a fabulous resource with many Wellbeing topics of interest which many in our school community have already accessed.
WDHS- ‘Beyond Bodies, Bugs and Babies Sexuality Roadshow’
There were a lot of important messages within the WDHS Roadshow presentations such as information around local support services, consent, puberty and changes within the body, contraception, avoiding risky situations and generally, how to look after your body.
Students were keen to get involved in the interactive activities and were very respectful of the information being presented to them by the wonderful staff from WDHS.
In Term 3 we will shift our focus in our Pastoral Care Program (PCP) to homeroom and PCP group activities. This is to continue to promote connections and interactions within the groups and for more familiarity and connection with PCP and homeroom teachers.
As always, I wish you all a safe and restful holiday break after a VERY busy Term Two at Monivae. Our students are so lucky to have such diversity in their education and such importance placed on holistic education which includes physical, social and emotional Wellbeing.
