A message from Margie   Â
Welcome to our new students!Â
We were happy to welcome our new students and their families last Tuesday for the start of Term 3. This is our inaugural mid-year intake of Reception students and they have already made a great start to school. We were also very pleased to welcome back Cherry and her Mum Alice who were members of our school community previously. 😊

Thank you, Parents and Friends
It was a wonderful surprise for all the girls at school to return and find their toilets had been beautifully painted with inspirational quotes and images by the Parents and Friends in the school holidays. We'd like to thank Carrie Williamson, Niccola Phillips, Amanda Preskett , Jess Gerrard, Alex Fry (& Louise) and Vanessa Marsland for this incredible transformation.✨🙌 ✨Boys, your turn is coming!Â
Â
The Parents and Friends have also donated 2 new trees for the Willow Playground to replace the ones we have lost in the last 2 years.Â
Â
What would we do without our Parents and Friends? The school is certainly more beautiful, well-equipped and connected due to their efforts. Â
Kindness, the gift that gives twice
This term our Learn Stand Give Fly theme is KIND, under the Stand category. I think that kindness is such an important value for us to instil in children; in fact, it's my personal favourite of all 20 themes we teach. I think what I love the most about kindness is that it brings joy to both the person receiving kindness and the giver. It really is the gift that gives twice; and it is contagious too. This video explains this concept:
"What's the only thing in the world that doubles when you share it?" - Cause Connect
Â
To start the term students have been reflecting on how even very small acts of kindness can make a significant difference to others. They have considered how to show more kindness at school to their peers, and have set themselves a kindness goal for the next week. Â Please take the time this term to talk to your children about times others have been kind to you, and the impact that has had on your lives.Â
Our new muralÂ
On Friday David Booth came to present us with our new mural, unique to our school 'Yureidla Piipawardli'. You may remember that David made this with the students in workshops earlier this year. All of the students' handprints are featured on the mural, along with symbols that the students worked with David to create. The mural also tells the story of our school, including features like the students, community members, native flora and fauna surrounding our school and the Kaurna and Peramangk shields.Â
We are thrilled to have this unique artwork now installed in our front office for all to see. Come and have a look! Ngaitalya, David!Â
Â
Our school band Â
We also had the first performance of our school band at last week's assembly, conducted by our band teacher Peter Young. I was so impressed by our students, some of whom have only been learning to play a wind instrument since the beginning of this term. Â
Seven of our band members also attended a special band workshop for students from around the hills at Mount Barker High School this week and were wonderful representatives for our school. Â Thank you to Jess de Campo, Min Johansen, Emily Brodie-Tyrrell and Vanessa Marsland for driving.Â
Kiwanis Terrific KidsÂ
Congratulations to our two Kiwanis Terrific Kids for Term 2, Abby Walsh and Stephanie Pollifrone. Everyone at Uraidla Primary School thinks you are Terrific Kids!Â
Maker's EmpireÂ
I was so proud to accompany 6 teams from our school who presented their 'Kids in Space' Makers Empire Design and Technology projects at the Adelaide Convention Centre last week. Â Thank you to Luke Sanders and Megan Tucker for accompanying us and driving. Students were challenged to design and 3D print something they thought astronauts in the international space station could use to help them remain in the Green Zone. I loved the way this project brought our well-being work into the curriculum. I'd also like to congratulate Sallie and Alex for fostering great student agency. Other schools present had adults setting up displays and talking on behalf of their students, but our displays were 100% student-led. Australian astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg visited our stalls and enjoyed hearing our students explain their designs. Well done Uraidla PS!Â
Olympics fever
Finally, we have some photos of our future Olympians to share.  Go the Aussies! 🥇🥈🥉
I wish you a wonderful fortnight! 😊
