Yarra Valley Division Cross Country

Last week, MECS had 9 runners competing in the Yarra Valley Division Cross Country at Yarra Valley racecourse. It was the next meeting after a strong showing from our school at the local district meet some weeks ago.

Of the 9 runners we took, 5 made it into the top 12 and will be competing at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country today (Thursday 13 June).

A big congratulations to the following runners:

Zoe K – 2nd

Kyrin D – 6th

Layla K – 11th

Mack B -  12th

Sage d – 12th

Simon H – 16th

Mark B – 22nd

Quin F – 28th

Levi K – 36th

MECS provides all students with an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities in and outside of the classroom. It is great to celebrate the giftings that God has placed in these young people but also to celebrate God’s goodness with our best ever result at taking through 5 students to the Regional finals.

The State Competition awaits our students if they can again make their way through to the top 12.

Staff - Student Basketball Match

A few times a year, the staff challenge the Year 12s to a sporting match in either netball, volleyball and basketball. This term it was basketball and wow, what a tight game it was.

The Year 12s had plenty of players, athleticism, stamina and most other things going for them. The staff team was a little light on in all those areas so we recruited a few Year 10s and 11s to help us out. Thankfully we also had Josh Sharp join the staff team as he is a regular staff member on Wednesdays for inter-school sport. He is also a beast when it comes to basketball!

The game was well officiated by two Year 10 students who referee basketball outside of school. It was a tight game all the way (with Josh scoring most of the staff points).

In the end the staff won by 3 points in a very enjoyable (and tiring) game with hot chips provided for those students coming to watch.

This is a fantastic part of the MECS community and a great way for teachers and students to interact outside of a teaching environment.

Better luck to next year's Year 12s!
