Japanese Club Lunch

Junior Secondary has a variety of lunch clubs throughout the week and on Tuesdays an enthusiastic group of students from Years 7 & 8 meet to learn about Japanese language and culture in a fun way.

Recently we met in the Food Tech room to share some Japanese food and our Principal, Mrs Dempsey, came to join the fun!

The menu consisted of Miso Soup, Steamed rice with Furikake and Okonomiyaki.

Okonomiyaki is a savoury Japanese pancake, topped with delicious sauce and flakes of seaweed and bonito. The word 'Okonomiyaki' means 'cooked as you like it'.

See https://www.japancentre.com/en/recipe/1-okonomiyaki-savoury-pancake for the recipe we used.

Alexandra's (7A)  review of the lunch:

°˖✧◝(ᗒᗨᗕ)◜✧˖°

The smell of freshly cooked rice, miso soup at the perfect temperature to drink,

the table set & chop sticks gently placed in order. This was the Japanese lunch we had the joy of having recently. We had Smith Sensei, Mrs Dempsey & others! It was a great time to indulge in an authentic Japanese lunch!  There was okonomiyaki (お好み焼き), miso soup (味噌汁), rice (with seasoning) & pickled ginger! We are so blessed we had this lunch & enjoy it with the people in the club!

Thank you Smith Sensei!
