Year 5 Camp Reflections

On Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th May, the Year Five students embarked on a camping trip to the Alexandra Adventure Resort. The goal of this camp was to encourage our students to ‘have a go’ and challenge themselves. This proved to be a successful goal achieved by all. Some of the activities in which our students participated were: the giant swing, crate stacking, canoeing, archery, disc golf, beach volleyball, bocce, orienteering, rock climbing, a camp fire and our exciting trivia night.

What did we do when we got there? On the first day when we got there all of the year five’s went to pick up their luggage. We sat down in the undercover near the hall and organised our groups.

What was the scariest activity? It was the high ropes. The first part of it I slipped and I was dangling off. I called out ‘HELP!’ What was the most fun activity? The flying fox. You could lay on your back and throw rocks in the water.

What surprised me the most was that I got sleep! Something I learnt about myself at camp? You don't give up on activities even if you are scared. Something I did not enjoy was getting sick! Something I really loved at camp: the beds were comfy!

My year 5 Camp was amazing! I really enjoyed it. My scariest activity was the high ropes. It was higher than I expected. The most fun activities were canoeing and flying fox. The flying fox was so fun because we had to go across the lake. It was so much fun I could see the view out in the open. Canoeing was so much fun too because you got splashed all the time. At the end we got to go in the water.

Something I did not enjoy at camp was the weather. It was so cold my hands were freezing. I couldn't stand it, I just really wanted to go inside. The giant swing was fun and scary as well because of how high I was.

At first I thought camp would be OK but the activities I did were awesome!

  • Low ropes were pretty tricky but it was harder than expected.
  • High ropes were VERY scary but even more fun! It was shaky but I’m somehow still alive! Once I went down, I realised it was not high at all!
  • Canoeing was definitely one of the best activities there! I could glide through the water and go really fast, I had so much fun doing it.
  • Orientering was like a scavenger hunt where we had to find letters around camp from the clues and unscramble tem to make a word.
  • The campfire was amazing, we roasted marshmallows and apples!
  • Flying fox was so good! We ‘flew’ across the lake and it was really fast and really fun.
  • The giant swing was AMAZING! I had a harness attached to a few ropes and one rope was getting pulled by the rest of my group, I went even higher than the high ropes and then SWING! I swung and whooshed and it was sooo fun!
  • Beach volleyball was very interesting! My group got split in half and the game began. Once we got the hang of it the game started. I scored a lot of points and we won 63-62!
  • The trivia was one hundred percent the best activity there, Miss Corrigan break-danced while Mrs Roleff beatboxed. DJ Lucas arrived with a CRAZY mix and Miss Felsinger sang opera! The winners of the trivia were announced and my group won!
  • In my opinion, camp was just one of the greatest times of my life!

Scariest Activity

The scariest activity in my opinion was the giant swing because it was really high up, even though I went to the top. But once I did it, it wasn't scary anymore and I wanted to go again.

Most Fun Activity.

The most fun activity for me was the flying fox. I loved flying across the big lake and relaxing. It was a very good experience.

Something I Learnt About Myself.

At Camp I realised that I was really good at canoeing, especially turning, splashing, going fast and standing up without falling out of my boat and keeping my balance.

Something That Surprised Me About Camp.

At Camp something that really surprised me was how tall the high ropes and giant swing was. Something else that surprised me was that there was a pool and a lake

The last thing that surprised me was how clean the cabins were.

Something I did Not Enjoy At Camp.I did not enjoy the weather because it was very cold and my fingers were hurting 24/7. Because of the cold it was hard to fall asleep so I wore a jacket to bed. It was very uncomfortable.

Something I Loved At Camp.

Something I really loved at camp was the boys cabins, the trivia night, and the flying fox across the lake.

Year 5 camp was the BEST for everyone including the teachers!

I enjoyed it sooo much. It was probably the best thing I've been to this year!!!

The scariest thing that I did was probably the giant swing. It was really scary when it first fell and the first two to three swings l couldn’t lay out my hands but after l let go and it was so fun l wanted to do it again. Maybe even go backwards but we could only go one time.

The funnest activity I did was probably the flying fox. The flying fox was AMAZING!!! It was extremely fun! It made me laugh so much because every time I finished the flying fox l would fall on the ground. One time I fell and then I fell again. And then I fell and went all the way to the back but luckily there was a cushion.

  1. The scariest activity was the giant swing because when you get to the top you just sit there and wait for the sound of you unclipping.
  2. The most fun activity was also the giant swing because of how fun the drop was but then again still quite scary.
  3. I learned that I don't have to be scared of heights because I now know it will always be safe.
  4. What surprised me about camp is the new friends that I made at first, these people I barely talked to, but by the end we were friends.

Camp was really fun. We got to stay there for 3 days and 2 nights. The scariest activity was the high ropes. You were in a harness high in the air on a tightrope for the first two levels,  it was really fun.

The best activity was definitely the giant swing. It was amazing because you would get pulled up by all your friends and when you got to the top you would go flying and swing up and down at light speed. If you didn't want to go all the way up, you could go half way or as far as you wanted.

At camp I learnt a lot about myself, such as that I am a very talkative person.

Something at camp that really surprised me was that Miss Felsinger is an amazing singer. Something that I did not enjoy was how it was freezing cold! But something I loved about camp was that DJ Lucas was in the house!

The scariest part of camp was the high ropes. I was really confident at the start, but when I got on to the high ropes Mr Camerino yelled out “don't look down”  so obviously I looked down and the ropes were so high up. The whole high ropes were shaky, so that was too scary.

The most fun activity was canoeing. I was partnered with my friend and we had a life jacket and a helmet on. We both hopped into the canoe with a paddle. We both rowed the boat and crashed about 15 times. The canoe almost flipped but luckily it didn't, but it did flood a bit.

The thing I struggled with  was trying to sleep while some people were snoring in my cabin. It was really funny. And the heights of some of the activities were so high up in the sky I could see everything at the campsite.

Something that I loved was the potatoes. They were ‘oh my gosh’! I could not tell you how good they were with buttery yumminess. Also the ice cream I had was so good with chocolate syrup!

I think the scariest thing on the Year Five camp was the high ropes. The reason I think high ropes was the scariest thing is because you are so high off the ground and you only have a harness that was attached to a piece of wire/rope. I didn't do high ropes because I thought it was way too scary.

The most fun activity at camp was probably canoeing, because you could go really fast or really slow. When I went canoeing, my friend did it with me and he kept shaking our canoe while we were in it.

Something that surprised me at camp was no matter how cold it was, later on in the day it would warm up or at least not be as cold.

Something I really loved and found funny was how the teachers participated in the activities, like how Mrs Lucas turned into a DJ, Miss Corrigan break danced and how Miss Felsinger sang Opera.
