Principals Report

Sue Carr

Dear Parents and Friends of St Brendan’s,

Welcome to Week Two of Term Three. We certainly began the new term with a wet and wintry blast to remind us of the season we are currently in. The students came back to school full of positivity, energy and confidence. It was lovely to see them settle so seamlessly back into familiar routines. I am extremely proud of their attitude and their efforts.

Good Bye and Welcome

During Week One, we welcomed Ms Kylie Edgar and Ms Tallulah Peacock into Year 5/6N to take  the reins from Mrs Nicole Reed who has one week to go before she goes on Parental Leave and awaits the birth of her baby. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Nicole for her tireless dedication and professionalism. I wish her a well earned rest before she and Kyle welcome their new baby. I, along with all the staff, wish Nicole the very best and look forward to welcoming her back to St Brendan’s when she decides to return. I would also like to officially welcome and thank Kylie Edgar and Tallulah Peacock for taking over the teaching in 5/6N. We are delighted to have you both on staff.

Naplan 2024

Last week, parents of students in Years Three and Five received copies of their child’s Naplan results. If you have any questions regarding the report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to discuss your questions/concerns.

MACS Visit

Last week, we were visited by staff from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Southern Office. They came to see our Spelling Mastery program in action. This program runs from Year Three to Year Six. They were also lucky enough to see part of our English program (Phonics)  running in Foundation C and Foundation R. The Year 1/2  classes were at specialist classes so they did not meet our visitors.

The School Effectiveness staff from MACS were so impressed with the focus, the knowledge and the calm learning environment they witnessed throughout the school. We were proud to showcase our new approach to the teaching of English. We have been asked to host other school leaders who may want to see our program in action. I am so proud of our teachers and students. Well done St Brendan’s!

The Sacrament of Confirmation

This Thursday, our Year Six students will travel to St Joseph’s Crib Point to participate in a retreat day.  They will work with Gen Bryant and her band to learn more about their journey through Confirmation, into the Catholic faith.

This Friday, Bishop Tony Ireland will visit our Year Six students before they  are to be confirmed in faith on Saturday evening 6pm at St Brendan’s Church. We thank Bishop Tony for spending time with the candidates and we ask for your prayers for these young people as they take the next important step in their faith journeys.

Have a great week,

Sue
