Elite Volleyball Program

Nikki Laird - Project Officer EVP

As term 2 comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of the progress and achievements of our Elite Volleyball students. This term, our focus has been on developing well-rounded individuals who strive for excellence not just on the court, but in all areas of their lives.

Our students have embraced the challenge of becoming elite humans first and foremost. They have trained and competed with immense pride, pushing themselves to new heights. Additionally, they have had valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills by speaking to primary school students about our program and hosting a school tour for a visiting team from Chinese Taipei. Our open men's and women's teams also took on an exciting challenge this term competing in their first ever international level game against the Chinese Taipei team. This was an invaluable opportunity for our athletes to test their skills on an international stage.

Looking ahead, we are gearing up for our upcoming “come and try” sessions for primary school students interested in joining our elite program. Our next session on 24 July is expected to host over 45 potential new recruits. We cannot wait to inspire the next generation of elite volleyball players and humans.

Term 2 has been immensely rewarding, and we are already eager for the opportunities term 3 will bring. Our elite athletes continue to make us proud with their commitment to growth and excellence.

New EVP Uniforms

We are excited to announce our EVP athletes have brand new playing kits. Thanks to our EVP Sponsors, Platinum Sponsor, BOQ The Gap and Gold Sponsor, Tribal Sport, we were able to gift our EVP athletes 1 playing kit each.  We can't wait to see the new uniforms on the court.

Intermediate Schools Cup

67 of our Elite Volleyball Program athletes recently competed at the Intermediate Schools Cup on the Gold Coast. This state-based championship event features two age group divisions, Year 9 and Year 10, competing across various divisions. The Gap SHS proudly sent teams to represent our Year 9 and Year 10 cohorts, as well as two strong Year 8 teams who stepped up to challenge their volleyball skills against more experienced athletes. Our Year 8 girls and boys teams showed remarkable improvement, winning games against Year 9 athletes and displaying elite character, setting the stage for success at the Junior Schools Cup in October.

Our teams also secured an impressive three bronze medals, with two of these won in the Honours divisions. This outstanding achievement means our teams have qualified to compete at the highest level in the Australian Schools Cup event in December. Our Year 10 boys division 2 team was our first to secure 3rd place at the event. We then secured a 3rd place with a highly competitive Year 10 boys honours team competing in a field of 79 teams across all divisions, while our Year 9 girls honours team also secured the 3rd spot among 62 teams.

All our athletes competed with respect and challenged themselves to leave the weekend as better volleyballers than when they started. We are thrilled to see what the future holds for these young athletes as they take their experiences forward, motivated to excel at the Australian Schools Cup later this year.
