News from the Library

Wow, the year has gone so fast and so much has happened! A quick look back at 2025 in the Library shows it been our busiest year ever with more loans, more engagement, and more enthusiasm! The Library Leaders program expanded to the point that we now have a waiting list, the participants in the Shadow Judging program tripled, Book Week was bigger and better than ever, and we ran our first Literary excursion! Thank you to everyone who took part in one way or another this year, and we look forward to a great 2026.
Library Leaders
The Library Leaders program wound up this year with a party at recess to celebrate all their hard work. Several were awarded their badges, and Annabelle was introduced as the new Library Captain for 2026. Among other duties next year Annabelle will be taking on the role of mentor for the newer Library Leaders, and helping to direct the program. Well done!
Thank you to all our Library Leaders and helpers who took part this year – Mitchell, Lily, Jimmy, Chloe A, Chloe L, Alex, Lidia, Annabelle, Guntaz, Brodie, Scarlett, Emily, Ellie, Olivia, Nina, Tahilia, Ashley, Sshyna, Logan, Katie, Shanay and Dolly.
Library Literary City Excursion
Last week, ten students ranging across year levels from 8 to 11 took part in a day visiting a range of places that link Melbourne and literature. We began the day at Federation Square where we met our guide, Meyer, who took us on a two-hour City of Literature walking tour. We visited sites such as the location of the old Coles Book Arcade, and were told tales of the various ways stories can be communicated, whether via books, cinema, street art, or architecture.
After a lunch break, we then visited the Sticky Institute, a volunteer organisation that celebrates and promotes zines. The day finished with a guided tour of the State Library of Victoria. All the students and staff involved had a great time and were enthusiastic about doing something similar in 2026. The Sticky Institute was a favourite, as was the Dome Reading Room in the State Library.
Overdue Library Books
As we finish the year, many items remain overdue. Reminder emails will be sent this week or at the beginning of Term 1 requesting the return of these materials. As all library loans are shared resources for the entire school, retaining items longer than necessary prevents others from accessing them. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
