A lovely little hand-stitched flower was the perfect mini-project to practice using embroidery needles and thread in Textiles this term!

Another year has gone by just like that, and our Visual Arts and Technology students have once again amazed us with their skills, creativity, and passion. From Design and Technologies Week, Artisan of the Month, to the highlight on the school’s calendar, the VCE ‘Shining Bright’ Showcase, our students have embraced every opportunity to display their learning and passion.
Across all year levels, students have experimented with new materials, refined their technical skills, and pushed their creative boundaries. Whether designing innovative solutions, crafting detailed artworks, or presenting polished final media products, our students have shown remarkable dedication and growth throughout the year.
A big thank you to our captains and all staff and volunteers that have helped across the year to make events like the VCE Showcase possible. Without your support, we would not be able to put on such fantastic school wide events celebrating our talented students.
Early Term 1, I will be putting out a call for Visual Art and Technology Captains for 2026. If you’re interested, stay tuned in early Term 1 for more details.
For now, we are excited for what next year brings for our Visual Arts and Technology students and can’t wait to see their skills and creativity on display. All the best for the holiday break and see you in 2026.
It’s been a fantastic semester in Year 9/10 Media. Students have developed their understanding of codes and conventions, the building blocks of media products. Throughout the semester, they created a video essay in which they analysed a scene of their choice using their growing knowledge of media codes.

Building on these skills, students then worked toward producing a media product of their own, learning about the full production process (pre-production, production, and post-production) along the way. A wide range of media forms were explored, including short films, music videos, zines, magazines, and photography. Across all projects, students demonstrated impressive creativity and depth.

We wrapped up the semester with an exploration of gender representation in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film Barbie. Students examined how characters are constructed, the roles of men and women in the narrative, and the film’s critique of patriarchal structures.

Junior Systems has been an absolute blast this year, seeing our students develop their knowledge around solution based problem solving as well as learning technical skills like Soldering.
This term, our Year 7’s worked hard on their Make a Difference project, using the Sustainable Development Goals, to create a product that would solve a real-world problem. We saw Medication dispensers for sports injuries, rubbish collectors, automatic seed planters to battle against deforestation and much more. We were very impressed with their ideas and their work output.

In Year 8, our students worked hard on their soldering skills and thought long and hard about their character that would have 2 LED’s embedded in it. The students spent many hours in class perfecting their soldering techniques with only a few slip ups or minor burns along the way. Their patience did not go unnoticed during this.

Year 9 and 10 students who completed Integrated Systems Engineering or Robotics developed their coding and problem solving skills. Creating incredible machines that moved items, turned to follow a path or something completely unique. The groups all worked hard on their projects, despite technical difficulties or issues with their equipment.

This week, our Year 9 and 10 Food Studies students participated in a cupcake-making and decorating competition held across several classes. The task was straightforward: students were to design and present a set of six decorated cupcakes. Within this brief, students demonstrated remarkable creativity, producing designs inspired by animals, national flags and landmarks, cartoon characters, and a variety of other imaginative themes.

Across two lessons, students baked their cupcakes and completed their decorations, working with buttercream icing and fondant to craft detailed and visually appealing toppers. All participants applied themselves with enthusiasm and the finished products reflected their growing skills and pride in their work.

We are so proud of everything our students have achieved this year and of the incredible work they’ve produced. We’ve seen a real lift in innovation, particularly in the use of reclaimed materials and sustainable, creative thinking techniques. Year 7 have worked extremely hard to design and make a range of beautiful decorative bunting, and Year 8 have created amazing soft toys for charity. Our Year 9 and 10 students have produced outstanding outfits and products that thoughtfully challenge the fast-fashion world. Whether working independently or collaboratively, they’ve delivered outcomes well beyond our expectations.

We truly value our Product Design program and the rich applied learning it offers. Our students have really stepped up this year, designing and making an impressive range of outcomes. Year 7 raced into the future with their wacky racer designs, learning how to adapt and modify their ideas to improve aerodynamics. Year 8 created a range of standout bush habitats, each with its own unique features. Our Year 9 and 10 students applied traditional methods to build toolboxes and tools, while also using their laser-cutting skills to produce phone stands and a variety of other products.

VCE Product Design and Technology, both textiles and wood, went out with a bang in this year’s showcase. We are incredibly proud of everything our future designers have achieved, and we can’t wait to see what they bring to the professional world.
Great job team!
