Year 7 Orientation 2026

Year 7 Orientation Evening
It was wonderful to meet many of our incoming Year 7 families at this year's Orientation Evening on Mon 8 December. The evening was designed to help families feel informed and supported as their child begins the journey into secondary education. We believe that strong partnerships between families and schools are essential to improving and maximising the educational outcomes of our students. The evening featured the following guest speakers, who shared practical strategies on how to support students through the transition to Year 7 and beyond.
Kylie Lloyd is a Clinical Family Therapist and mental health clinician with over 20 years’ experience supporting children, young people, and families. She has managed wellbeing teams in schools and now leads a team of clinicians in a not-for-profit organisation supporting families healing from trauma. Kylie is passionate about working with schools and parents to promote resilience, connection, and emotional wellbeing, particularly during the transition to high school. Kylie covered the following topics in her presentation:
Understanding the Transition
Mental Health Awareness
Building Resilience
Family Support Tips
School Collaboration
Juanita Kimpton is one of our long-standing parents who brings a wealth of experience and has made a significant contribution across the school community. This includes serving on College Council and various Sub Committees over many years. She shared valuable insights from a parent’s perspective on the transition into high school and the approaches that have supported her three children throughout their schooling at Wantirna College.
After the presentation, families had the opportunity to meet and engage with key staff at a range of information booths for further information about school programs, wellbeing supports, instrumental music, parent involvement and what to expect in the year ahead.
Please see the Year 7 Parent Transition Handbook for further information.
Year 7 Orientation Day
We were delighted to welcome our new Year 7 2026 students to our school community during the state-wide Orientation Day on Tue 9 December. The event marked an important milestone as students began their secondary school journey, meeting teachers and exploring their high school life. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they embraced the opportunities to connect and feel part of our school community.
Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of engaging workshops, including Maths, Science, PE, and Trivia, as well as enjoying a photo booth to capture special memories. More importantly, Orientation Day provided a chance for students to start building meaningful connections with their peers, teachers and the school environment, laying the foundation for a positive and successful year ahead.
We look forward to seeing all our Year 7's on the first day of school, Wed 28 January 2026.
