Year 9 Service Week - What it is to be a man of St Vigil?

Last week, our Year 9 Learning Groups visited different locations all over Hobart to engage in Service to our Community. Our young men visited the St Virgil's College Junior School Campus, Hobart Horse Riding and Landcare at our Austins Ferry Campus. We were unfortunately unable to attend Rokeby Primary, on the Thursday, due to closures. This was an amazing opportunity to connect, enact and serve our local community.

Thank you to St Virgil’s College Junior School, Hobart Horse Riding, St Virgil’s Senior Campus and Mark Smith with his Landcare program. These opportunities are invaluable for our young men.

Remembrance Day – Nicholas Murnane (Claremont RSL – President)

During Extended Pastoral Care on Friday, students in Years 8 and 9 attended a Remembrance Day presentation where special guest speaker, Nick Murnane, former SVC student and current President of the Claremont RSL, shared his experiences with them.

Nick spoke about the significance of Remembrance Day, including the symbolism of the red poppy, respectful minute’s silence, the playing of the bugle and these respective ways in honouring those who have served and sacrificed their lives for Australia. He also noted Australia’s history and involvement in various wars (including his own personal experiences) highlighting the experiences of service personnel and what it truly means to serve one’s country. The presentation offered students a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of remembrance and service.

Year 12 Graduation Mass

At St Mary’s Cathedral, our Year 12 students gathered with their families and teachers to celebrate their Graduation Mass — a deeply meaningful moment honouring their journey as young Virgilian men. Surrounded by the beauty and tradition of our Catholic faith, the ceremony reflected the spirit of Edmund Rice, whose values of compassion, service and courage have shaped their time at St Virgil’s College. It was a powerful celebration of growth, gratitude and the bright futures that now await them. A big thank you to Gabi Ball and the staff choir for raising the roof.
