Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s,
As we draw near to the end of another school year, I am struck by the extraordinary energy and commitment that have defined these past months. A quick glance at our social media channels tells the story – images and updates that capture the breadth of experiences our students have embraced and the dedication of staff who make it all possible.
For our senior students, this season carries special significance. Year 12 have now completed their final TASC examinations, closing a chapter that began many years ago. For our Year 12 cohort, this is more than the end of exams – it is the conclusion of many years of schooling. Understandably, this moment brings a mix of emotions: anticipation for what lies ahead, and a touch of nostalgia for the friendships, routines, and opportunities that have shaped their daily lives. From lunchtime games and music rehearsals to spirited sports competitions and quiet conversations in the Mark Waddington Student Lounge, these experiences will remain treasured memories – ones that will be fondly recalled at reunions in years to come.
While farewells can feel bittersweet, they are also a time for celebration. Our Year 12 students have grown immensely – transforming from eager Year 7s into confident, compassionate young adults. Witnessing this journey is one of the greatest privileges of education and parenting. Their achievements, character, and resilience are reasons for immense pride.
In the coming weeks, we look forward to honouring these graduates at Speech Day and the Valedictory Dinner. As they step into the next stage of life, they do so equipped with the skills, values, and confidence to thrive. My hope for each one of them is simple yet profound: remain true to the principles that define St Virgil’s – Community, Integrity, Justice, Kindness and Learning. These values will serve as a compass, guiding them through life’s opportunities and challenges.
To families with younger students, cherish these years. Be present, be involved and encourage your boys to embrace every opportunity. The journey from Kindergarten to Year 12 passes quickly, and before long, you will be celebrating their graduation.
Best wishes for the week ahead.
Jon Franzin
