Hakea House

2025, a year filled with memories, challenges and new experiences. Throughout the term, many students in Dandenong High have been able to experience many new things, meet new people and face different challenges.

This term, the Year 7 students in Hakea went to the Mini Golf experience for Maths and Science, which helped build a stronger connection with their friends and the subjects!

Hakea also had a photo competition this term, where we got many entries and submissions. The photos were all so creative. We had 3 winners, Aliya H9, Reyhaneh H9 & Amanullah H8. Well done!

We welcomed the new students of Hakea 7 which they loved and embraced the Hakea spirit. We are all excited to have them join us in 2026!

Hakea also opened the gym at lunch where many students in the House went up against teachers, competing for the win and various different games and sports. This helped students create a strong bond with teachers and one another.

We are ending the year with many fun and inclusive excursions. The Year 7s went to the beach, 8s to the Enchanted Garden and the Year 9s to Gumbuya world.

Everyone is getting their competitive side out by participating in Hakea's Mario Kart challenge where we are all trying to beat our personal best. This is creating a great environment for the students and bringing students from Year 7-9 to face off in challenges.

Hakea

2025 has been another wonderful year for Hakea House, filled with energy, achievement, and community spirit. As we come to the end of the year, it’s clear that Hakea continues to embody our values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.

In February, we welcomed our new Hakea Year 7s into our community. They quickly settled into life at Dandenong High School, making friends, showing great behaviour, and demonstrating what it means to be part of Hakea. Their excursion to Lysterfield Lake was a highlight, with students enthusiastically joining in activities and supporting one another throughout the day.

Across the year, Hakea students have shown outstanding enthusiasm in school events. Whether at the Athletics or Swimming Carnivals, our sea of yellow was out in full force- cheering, participating, and pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. Many also joined in the Push-Up Challenge at Athletics, earning valuable House points while promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

A highlight was the House Choral Competition, where Hakea placed second with a fantastic performance of Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.” The teamwork and spirit shown by all involved was something to be proud of.

Our Hakea students have once again done an incredible job leading fundraising efforts for our 2025 House Charity, the Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre. Students chose this charity because of its importance in supporting local families and young people to access opportunities in our community. Through initiatives such as selling Hakea’s Helping Hands, they have raised over $1300 for this very worthy cause.

Hakea also continued its much-loved Photo and Art Competitions in Terms 2 and 3. We received an impressive number of entries from both students and staff, showcasing the creativity and talent within our House. A huge congratulations to everyone who participated!

This year, we also began a new tradition, Student of the Week, to recognise and celebrate the incredible talents, achievements, and acts of kindness within our House. Each week, we’ve highlighted students who shine both loudly and quietly through their humility, perseverance, and care for others. We’re proud to celebrate success and effort in all its forms, both in and out of the classroom. Congratulations to all of our winners, you deserve to be very proud.

At the final Year 12 assembly, Hakea reflected proudly on the achievements, friendships, and sense of belonging that define our House. Our graduating students leave behind a strong legacy of leadership and community involvement. We wish them every success as they begin the next chapter of their journey and hope they remain proud members of the Dandenong High School Alumni.

Finally, thank you to all Hakea students and staff for an incredible year. Your positivity, effort, and teamwork make Hakea the wonderful community it is. Have a safe, restful break, and I look forward to another fantastic year in 2026.
