Currently the students have been learning about the PBL value Safe, focusing on the statement “I move responsibly.” Through class discussions and activities, students explored what it means to make safe choices in different areas of the school, such as walking indoors and being aware of others’ personal space. They reflected on how moving responsibly helps everyone feel safe and respected, and contributes to a calm and caring school environment.

As part of our PBL journey, students are continually supported to demonstrate our school-wide expectations: to be Safe, Respectful, and Learners. When students need extra support, teachers follow our school Behaviour Flowchart (shown below). This process ensures that we respond to behaviours consistently while also teaching and reinforcing the expected values.
At St John’s, we use accurate data to guide all aspects of student learning, including behaviour learning. Teachers collect data both in classrooms and in the yard to help us identify how best to support each student’s individual needs.

If additional support is required, your child’s classroom teacher will contact you to discuss the strategies being implemented to help your child demonstrate the expected behaviours, as well as ways you can support your child to learn these values.

Congratulations to the following students who were acknowledged for following the PBL Value Learn: I use strategies to manage my own emotions.

Last Friday 31 Ocober St John's took part in Australia's Biggest Child Saftey Day. The students learnt about Recognise, React, Report. Recognise encourages children to be aware of their surroundings and body clues. React helps children consider choices or actions that may help keep themsafe. Report encourages children to speak to an adult about unsafe situations.

We hope that this encouraged important conversations about body clues and body cues, and how to Recognise, React and Report. These conversations are fundamental to keeping kids safe in all areas of life.

On Sunday 26th October a group of our Year 3/4 students braved the weather had the exciting opportunity to take part in the AFLW Carlton Respects Game, forming the Guard of Honour as the players ran onto the field. It was a wonderful experience celebrating teamwork, respect and inclusion, values we share in our school community. The students were thrilled to see the posters they created as part of the Carlton Respects program proudly displayed at the entrance to the stadium. A special highlight of the day was when Remy represented our school by performing the official coin toss before the game, an unforgettable moment! The students proudly wore their Carlton Respects colours and cheered loudly, showing great spirit and enthusiasm throughout the event.

This term we will hold a Better Buddies Day morning on Friday 7 November where the students will learn about the Better Buddies Values, as well as reviewing our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Behaviours. The students will work with different teachers and students from other year levels to focus on how we can be SAFE, RESPECTFUL and VALUE DIFFERENCES.
Students are invited to wear a touch of purple and bring their favourite soft toy as a symbol of Buddy Bear (as seen below).
