Assessments

Congratulations to our year 5 and 6 stuens on their amazing efforts during assessment week. This is an important time of year to see all of the wonderful things students have learnt over the year.

It's amazing to see so much growth.

Year 5

Over the past four weeks, Year 5 students Octavio, Tao, Milla, Taj, Sienna, and Laura have been working hard to create speeches on topics they are passionate about. Last week, parents and members of the Lions Community Centre came along to listen as the students presented their work. We were so proud of the effort each student put into their speech and how confidently they presented in front of an audience, especially one where everyone was over the age of 30! Not easy.

Well done, team!

Leadership

Over the next two weeks, our Year 5 students will be researching a role model and a leader they look up to. This will lead into writing their own speeches for Year 6 leadership positions.

On Monday the 8th of December, Aspire Higher Leadership will be visiting to work with the students for the day, helping them refine their speeches and prepare to present on Wednesday the 10th.

Literacy

Students have finished their learning about lakes from around the world and will now be exploring Australia, focusing on what made it easier for colonists to settle here. We will also explore Australia’s river systems, as well as its states and territories.

Swimming

The students have been having a fantastic time at swimming from learning to survive in rips, diving, butterfly stroke, dolphin kicks, tumble turns and much more.

Students have been extremeley respectful and engagbing during these lessons at the Danny Frawley Center.

Hi I’m Milo Stynes,

I've been doing dance for the last 3 years!

This year I’m doing Competitions with a team, a team that will be kind, caring, thoughtful and very good at dance.

This year has been my year. In my first competition I got FIRST, because the judge said we worked together as a team and had great musicality. In my second competition we got an Honorable Mention, it's when your team doesn’t get on the podium but the judge really liked it. My last competition I got third, sadly that was the last competition this YEAR!

November was quite a month.

I had my competition audition for 11-13 year olds! I was really nervous mostly because there were 30 kids auditioning….

In the audition we did a contemporary combo and a jazz combo.

I tried my best being a good role model to smaller kids, trying my hardest to dance my best and impressing the judge. And drum roll please…. I got in!

Next year is going to be the best!

Year 6

What we are looking forward to in grade 6

In grade 6 everyone is looking forward to having fun exciting activities everyday outside of school with things like, watch a movie in the hall, go to the beach and play games, a scavenger hunt, and more exciting fun days that lead up to the big day out where we are going to time zone to play games like mini golf and laser tag, which lots of people are very excited for.

Sleepout and Stalls

Well done to our amazing year 6 students who raised a whopping $3244 for St Vincent De Paul. What an amazing achievement. The lack of sleep for everyone involved was worth the money raised.

What a hit—our stalls were amazing!

Graduation

The grade 6 cohort are getting prepared to graduate from primary school. So far we have chosen our song and began to learn our dance. We’ve also started to create our year book, each designing a personal page and some of us writing recaps of key events from our final primary school year.

Numeracy

Over the last few weeks, the year 6 cohort has been learning about multiple maths subjects, some of which are fractions, percentages, data, and decimals. We also were very lucky to have Matt Hodder come in and teach us about data and the two types- primary and secondary. The class has also been learning about worded problems and how to solve them- 1 step and 2 step problems are what they were mainly learning. These couple weeks have been excellent for the year sixes and we hope that this form will continue in the current weeks.

Literacy

The past couple of weeks in literacy we have been learning about the 1967 referendum, and have been writing a piece about that in before the referendum, while in the referendum, and after the referendum. Another exciting piece we have been doing is reading ‘Us Mob Walawarru’ which is an engaging book that everyone enjoys reading in grade 6. For fluency we read with the teacher and fill in the gaps and then we go around the room and all read one sentence each until we do our partner reading.
