Middle School News

The final weeks of 2025 are quickly approaching. Whilst we are excited for the Christmas Holidays, we have been working hard to maintain a calm, focused and consistent learning environment. Enjoy catching up on what has been a busy, but incredible few weeks!

Assessment Week

For the last two weeks, the students have undergone end of year assessments. They have been incredible in the way they have applied all of their learning.

Remembrance Day

On the 11th of November at 11am, we stopped as a school community to commemorate and pay our respects to those that fought for our freedom and country. Each class made a wreath, which was brought forward at the gathering.

Swimming

This week the students commenced the swimming program. Despite being tired after lessons, the students have done incredibly well with maintaining focus during lessons.

A big shoutout to Mr Jaynes for ensuring the program ran so smoothly!

Also a shoutout to Karen for organising the transport and communication with the venue!

Italian Day

Grazie, Maestra!

Italian Day was a wonderful celebration that made the whole school feel as if it had been transported to Italy for the day. Students enjoyed delicious gelato and freshly made pizza, adding to the festive atmosphere. Classrooms and outdoor spaces were filled with Italian-themed activities, including art, language games, music, and cultural experiences. It was a joyful day of learning, tasting, and exploring, giving everyone a little taste of Italy right here at school.

Respectful Relationships

So far this term, the Year 3 and 4 students have been looking at a Positive Coping unit, where they have learnt a range of strategies and responses to various scenarios. They are now starting to look at Stress Management. Again, they will be looking at what stress feels like and how to respond to it.

Year 3

English

The Year 3 students have been exploring the poem The Ant Explorer as they prepare to write poems of their own. They have been learning the morpheme “bio”, meaning life, and discovering how it appears in words like biology and biome. During reading sessions, students have practised their fluency by rereading the poem with clear intonation and accuracy, helping them better understand the rhythm and expression used in poetry.

Each day, the students identify 'clunks' in our reading fluency session, which are words they struggle to pronounce, or words they don't know the meaning of. This ensures they grasp a solid understanding of the text whilst expanding their vocabulary and improving their fluency. This week our 'clunks' have been: loathed, gloomy, bracken bridge, 'Twas, weary, dreary and staggered.

Maths

Recently, the Year 3 students were been looking at Probability. They were  identifying different chance events and calculating the likelihood of outcomes.

They have now moved on to their third unit this year on Multiplication and Division. They have been exploring 2-digit Multiplication and Division, including remainders and regrouping techniques. Commencing next week, they will explore these techniques through worded problems.

Year Four

English

The Year 4 students have been doing a Novel Study based on 'Waves'. They have been looking at sentence expansion.

Through this text, they examine themes of immigration, resilience, and belonging, while developing skills in predicting, inferring, and identifying key ideas. Students discuss characters’ motivations, compare different perspectives, and explore how authors use descriptive language to shape mood and meaning. As they read, students respond through chapter reflections, vocabulary tasks, and creative activities that deepen their understanding to develop well-structured narratives.

Maths

In Maths, the Year 4 students have been looking at Probability and a variety of chance events. They have been learning to describe and compare the likelihood of everyday events, using language such as likely, unlikely, certain, and impossible. They have conducted simple chance experiments, recorded outcomes, and began to recognise that some results are more predictable than others. Students have also learned to create and interpret probability lists and tables, using these to explain their thinking.

Religious Education

The Year 4s have been looking at John the Baptist, and exploring how he prepared the way for Jesus. The students made lanterns to represent how we can shine God's light.
